Anyone else play with these at work? They are so fun and so cool!!! Definitely my favorite thing to be doing at work.
Not my video or one from my job, but a cool visual nonetheless.

Wish that were possible for my line of work. In the last week, we've kicked two controllers out of the cab for buffoonery.

We have a shop in FTW that I run which utilizes the Fanuc robots (although a good bit smaller model than those). We run about 20 of them in a production line which is divided into "cells" which manufacture small casted parts (weigh about 10lbs/ea). There are two robots per cell which feed a CNC lathe. One feeds the machine and removes parts, the other one does staging of raw castings and stacking of finished parts. They use optical sensors to evaluate location as well as quality inspection. They're pretty impressive once you get the programming and movements sorted out so that they aren't running into each other. I believe they have a pretty good maintenance record, but maintenance is expensive when it does occur because there's not a ton you can do yourself without outside specialists.

The robot cells don't make much sense for a lot of our oil & gas products (too bulky or heavy), but for items with high volumes/short cycle times they work great. It probably avoids a lot of repetitive stress injuries to employees in that shop.

We use them as routers. Two robots per cell to cut out complex thermoformed parts. They're twice as fast as a CNC machine with 2 cutters per cell. They're also just as precise and way more versatile. I'm working on replacing some of our CNC equipment with more robots since they have a quicker cycle time and to standardize our plant a bit more.

I could watch videos like that all day. I saw a documentary a while back re: the Kia plant down south. Unbelievable.

I'm telling you, after these things go self-aware...

We have had one of our robots chunk a part across the facility when the robot lost it's grip on the 10lb casting. No one injured, but they can do some damage when things go wrong. Ours are bolted to the foundation, so a robot uprising could be avoided by just leaving the room, lol.

Guaranteed that at least one of them knows where the wrench is to fit the foundation bolts ...

These would be perfect for when I have to give a prostate exam.

Until they figure out how to unbolt each other. Then it's on.

When they become self-aware they'll start becoming vegans and sign up for yoga classes. Productivity will head south immediately. And then they'll form a union.

Futurama called it!

I get to see robots at customer sights on occasion. I always liked the welders the best. Watching that giant wire spool rotating and how fast the they weld and all the crazy angles...awesome!

I worked with a group once that had a Fanuc arm to move microtiter plates between workstations where reagents or samples were added, incubators, and plate readers for high throughput screening for pharmaceuticals. The gripper kept dropping the plates, so they made a different system.

Quite a while back, but I saw a demo of an industrial robot in Japan - which was used to create a sculpture out of a block of ice. Fascinating!

Be careful with robots.......

Don't get in the same situation as Howard Wolowitz got into with his robotic arm.....
