I sent in registration for our plane with a check for $5.00 over a month ago (during the shutdown). Along with the registration, I included a change of address.

We received a final notice of expiration of aircraft registration last Saturday. The check has not cleared. The phone numbers on the letter are eternally busy.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Would it do any good to send another check and form?

Even without the shutdown it was taking them close to a months to process paper registrations. They used to have the backlog date on the website somewhere, but that seems to be gone now.

If you have proof that you sent it, I wouldn't worry. The same people who would give you flak over the expiration are the ones who know how far behind they are in processing routine stuff like this.

Since its only $5, I would send it in again with a cover letter explaining why with a copy to whoever sent you the expiration notice if it is a different address. Never had to register an airplane but I have had a similar experience, did what I suggested and the agency involved eventually sent the original check back.

Cheers

Like others have said, they're very busy right now.

From the website..
We are currently processing documents received on
approximately September 30, 2013.

I suggest you keep calling the number, I had a similar issue. If you can get ahold of a person, they can quickly confirm if they got your check/letter. They also will probably send you an extension letter so you can keep flying until it does get processed. The people I dealt with were direct and friendly and really did help.

I've got the same thing going. I'm just going to wait for them to catch up. I have copies of what I sent.

Just be patient. You can also email them and they will respond with info to your specific request. They are way backed up from the shut down.

Can't you do it online? I recall doing it that way and I didn't have to send anything in.

you can't register online. you can renew an existing registration though, i think.

I missed the online re-reg deadline (my own stupid on that one).
I filled out the form they sent and returned it.
They sent me a letter saying I sent the wrong form, said to use the enclosed form. The enclosed form was the same one I sent.
Went to the website, got the RIGHT form (not the one they sent me, TWICE),
Filled it out and resubmitted.
Only took 6 weeks to get re-registered.....

I ordered a new pilots certificate early last summer. One with "English proficient" on it. It came yesterday.

I'd completely forgotten about it.

You can normally do it online, but we needed to change address. That must be done through the mail.

I was in the same boat, but I decided it would be easier to RENEW through the "don't change anything" electronic channels, and to submit the change of address independently.

We have been telling our new certificated students that they might have to renew their 120 day temp certificate.

I would love to know what form to use. I'm on hold with the FAA right now. They have no idea how I am supposed to change my physical address without changing my mailing address.

Update:
Ok, the answer is this:
1 - get a PO box in Kansas
2 - File an AC8050-1.
Check the change of address only box.
In the owner box put the company name, address, and the words PHYSICAL ADDRESS.
3 - at the bottom where it says address, put in the PO box mailing address.

You can only have a physical address if the mailing address is a PO box.....:rolleyes2:
