Took a charter to TOL today. After landing, and while buttoning up the plane, four F-16's came by one after another on a low approach.

Wow, are they loud on full afterburner. Nearly blew my ears off.

As I was taxiing out for departure at night, there were four more taking off. The blue flames coming out the back was absolutely cool to watch.

And then I took off in the Aerostar. What a let down.

Off subject but thats how i felt shooting my 22 yesterday while eveyone was shooting fun 1911's and .50 revolvers and AR's

I have to say that Eagles/Vipers are pretty impressive in blower. Even in broad daylight they are bright blue. You can't even see the flame on the F404's or 414's we have in the Hornet/SH until it is dark, unless you are on the runway behind it (where you can see the red up the tailpipes). It's a big motor for such a little jet, speaking of the F-16.

Yeah, but what you drive is still louder!

Even at reduced power on final, a Hornet is deafening.

I was in the parking lot of an airshow when an F14 went full afterburner, probably about 1000 feet up. There were quite a few car alarms that went off and a definite ringing in my ears.

Everytime you pull the trigger, it's $0.04 or maybe $0.08 (unless you get high quality competition ammo). Everytime they pull the trigger, it's at least 5 times that. :)

I've been the victim of quite a few buzz jobs coming up and down the NC intercoastal waterway in the winter when I am the only person crazy enough to be out. Its right in a big military restricted area, a long way from civilization.

The thing is, you can't hear them coming.

There's a national guard squadron based out of there, I've been behind them on takeoff out of there as well. One of the mechanics invited me for a tour, but I never took him up on it.

Maybe I got too used to the Flying Tacos going over while working at Kirtland AFB. The aircraft that impressed me with its noise was the F4 in full burner (especially when they did dashes up the runway at 20 ft from behind and you didn't know they were there until they passed you) {Happened frequently at Yokota AB}

You have not heard loud or long blue flame, until you are on the line when a B1 departs.
Loud is the F-22, louder still, the F-35.

The B-1 IS loud! But louder still is an AV-8B Harrier in a hover! That one will make you head feel like it's about to explode!

Talking around the Navy/AF Dare target complex, just across the sound from Elizabeth City? If so I was just out there an hour and a half ago doing some goggle strafing. It is a pretty common thing to do low altitude ingress stuff into there, generally coming from the west across the Alligator river at 500'/500 kts. I'm sure that is quite a show judging by the boats down there watching.

I honestly haven't thought the F-22 is that loud, but then again, they seem to get out of blower pretty quick on takeoff so that probably quiets it down. Due to our slow acceleration below 300 kts (or when dirty) I'll normally take off in Max AB, pull it back to min blower to wait for the gear to come up below 250, and then push it back to max until I hit about 350 kts if I'm a wingman in order to get the join going quickly. I think the Raptor guys (and Viper folks for that matter) can accelerate comparatively a lot more quickly in or out of AB.

Yeah they are pretty damn loud.....real cool during home field FCLPs as I live right under the pattern (not so cool some of the time). I think the loudest jet I've ever heard in the pattern is the Prowler. Something to do with the combo of turbojets and the down cant of the exhaust pipes. Even with no afterburner, those motors are damned loud.

Loudest thing I've heard was watching FCLPs (VMFA-251) from the LSO's truck next to the runway. It was so loud that the noise made static on my video camera. What was cool was watching the video on slow motion. The pilot's were looking left at the "meatball" as each one passed. Gotta be an awkward feeling looking left while the aircraft slams down.

Yeah that's how Paddles dimes you out for not flying the ball all the way to touchdown. It sucks at the field, since you actually pass by the lens well prior to touching down, but on the boat it is further in front of where you are landing so can literally fly it until you are in the wires. And yeah, it is damned loud out there. We got to bring the wives/girls out a while back in a previous command to watch (and roger our ball calls).......was pretty cool for them and us.

I'm not gonna lie, every airshow where the fighter jets takeoff on full afterburner, it makes my eyes a little moist and I just wanna cheer hahaha. That noise is so cool! My favorite is the high speed passes or after they're done doing a dirty pass and have to put in full afterburner to get out. Man. That just never, ever gets old.

I'm already excited for May 15th.

The loudest thing with wings I have ever heard was a B-58 in full burner. I swear I could feel the fillings in my teeth rattling!!! Next would be the B-1.

Yup, the ICW leads right up the alligator. IIRC I was a few miles south of the alligator river swing bridge.

Also been buzzed a few times in the Chesapeake near Patuxent NAS

Yeah we will normally be turning around right over the bridge there and descending down.

22's normally takeoff in Mil. We do too unless we are 2 bag.

That, guys and girls.. is the sound of FREEDOM.:yes::thumbsup:

Makes sense. I guess taking off in blower 2 bag burns them dry quicker, thus allowing you to waste less time before you get gunned by us :D

Even on final fighter jets are loud. I've heard/seen lots of F22's, F15's, F16's land at Hickam AFB/HNL while staying at Ewa Beach.

Anytime brother, but it's tough to do tactical training when you are one ladder all the time!
