F15's couldn't catch 'em . . .

Very accurate summation, counselor. I'd suggest Ed read http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/17/AR2009071701785.html and compare that training to the training in which he was involved -- I suspect it's a bit more intense than standard LEO hand-to-hand training.

AFaIK, Ed is a very accomplished in the martial arts, but even so I'm inclined to side with the optimist label in this case. Such training does tend to lend an air of confidence but "A man's gotta know his limitations".

Personally, I'd be more inclined to worry about US Secret Service marksmanship training

Did this conversation really degrade into "my badassedness is so supreme, the secret service pees a little in their pants, and mumbles a muffled cry into their wrist-phones, when they see me walk by"?

No. That's me. We were talking about Ed.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I didn't read anything in the hand to hand section that overly impressed me, or has me shaking in my shoes. Looks like another article where the author doesn't really know the subject. Hey, that sounds familiar...

Well, since the only way to find out for sure ends up with Ed in either a jail or a hospital (or maybe the prison ward of a hospital), I will withdraw my comments and acknowledge Ed's claim as the meanest mother in the valley. I hope this makes him feel better.

You back-east boys and Chi-town slickers probably can't imagine the joy and relief that is radiating from this part of the country after eight years of that contrived crap. Our tiny vestige TFR is in a spot where you gotta be talking to somebody anyway, and is now a non-event. Y'all have fun now, y'hear? Only seven and a half left to go.

I have to say so far not too bad with our TFR in Chicago, well at least for me, Grant will have another opinion. My home airport is outside the whole thing here when POTUS is in town. So I am unimpeded with my comings and goings. Some of my destination may be affected but so far not to the detriment of my flying.

I'll forward your note to the SS. They will take care of it for you:smilewinkgrin:.

Glad some parts of the area aren't totally FIGMO.

The southside and south west suburbs are FUBAR when he is in town. But because the center of the TFR is basically on the lakeshore it does not affect as large a land mass as the previous PUTOS' TFR in Texas. There is not a lot of GA traffic over the lake.

hmm i just had an idea on how to boost attendance at 6Y9. Hoppys could set up a wrestling ring in the back yard and get a tag team of SS goons to fight Ed. Round of crown on the house for every guy Ed takes down :)

Why would you want that? I think Ed's already feeling better than he should.

Ron's just upset I wasn't government trained - therefore I must be inferior. And I am feeling good today. Painkillers are working. :D

So far, his visits (only two that I recall) haven't coincided with my flying, so I've been relatively unaffected. Chicago apparently has a pretty good record of compliance with the restrictions, with fewer than the average number of busts.

What countries are more powerful economically?
Really?

Ok - look at this list of countries by exports. It's probably not what you expected. By 2 out of 3 measures, the US ranks behind the EU in terms of nominal GDP. If you look at debt vs. GNP, you'll see that the U.S. ranks fifth.

Economically speaking, the U.S. is less powerful than you think....

Ummm.... European Union isn't a COUNTRY.

Ummm.... European Union isn't a COUNTRY.

But they made Felix's BMW that he can't drive from Illinois to California, so they must be better.

Typical European mindset...

so, in that list the World is listed as the #1 exporter. to whom? :D

Well, let's see...there were Pioneer, Voyager, Viking, Galileo, Cassini, Mariner...the decent stages of the LEMs are still on the Moon, so you could say that the World "exported" them...

Lots of other examples...:D

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say that the World is also the #1 importer as well.

so far, every time i've drawn a control volume around the earth, the mass flow = 0.

Yes, it was a real question. Your post suggested there was a single country with more economic power than the US. I was just curious what country that may be.

Ok - look at this list of countries by exports. It's probably not what you expected.

Economic power isn't measured by exports alone.

By 2 out of 3 measures, the US ranks behind the EU in terms of nominal GDP.

Interesting. As others have noted, you seem to be confusing "European Union" with a single country. Seeing how the economy (generally measured by GDP) of the United States alone accounts for nearly 24% of the world's economy (using your measures link), I find it interesting you still assert there is a single country with greater economic power than the US.

If you look at debt vs. GNP, you'll see that the U.S. ranks fifth.

hmph. Don't get me started on fiscal policy. Suffice it to say I lean heavily toward decentralization/freer market than the past two US administrations.

Economically speaking, the U.S. is less powerful than you think....

Very doubtful. :)

Oops, something quasi-political and definitely mod-antagonistic. Joke instead:

And they cost a lot so there should be a good amount of money there. But as far as I know the only significant item imported by the Earth is sunlight. At $0.05-0.10/kwh we've probably imported the world's annual GNP several times over in energy cost and it's a good thing too. Just think what your taxes would be if the government had to heat the planet.

I don't think so. I suspect that, just like Scott and out other participants here, you're an economist only in your free time. Sadly, it's difficult to convince people that economics aren't easy nor intuitive. If you think the U.S. is still the main economic power house, you're sadly mistaken.

Time to get out of this threat before Ted and our other know-it-all clowns trample all over it

The above discussion is interesting, but I don't actually care about the TFR, the USSS, or any of the countless unnecessary agencies. What I do care about is that it is *my* money that is used to pay for all this theater. Hey, did you know that in countries that have a much larger export output than the U.S., and that are more powerful economically, heads of state fly in Gulfstreams? And that they don't freak out when there's a threat? It really has gotten out of hand here, especially since it all costs money.

Um, you're the one who started this all with countries. But in any case, let's drop it and get back to the issues of those slow F15s!

What about meteor showers? The Aurora Borealis and Australis are both charged particles sent to the Earth by the Sun!

Hmmm... You said "country" then, when asked for clarification, changed that to "economic powers" and used the European Union to argue your point. If you get to change the rules and redraw economic boundaries and definitions to suit your point of view, it does tend to make it difficult to intuit economics (not to mention any other topic). Adding to the US economy those of Canada and Mexico (another "economic power" known as NAFTA) greatly narrows the gap between the US and EU. For that matter, why did you choose the EU as opposed to, say, APEC? You wanted to use only those economies using a single currency and do not include the United States, right? That's still not an apples-to-apples comparison.

No, I don't earn a living from economics. In fact, I've been pretty close to a couple economists and I couldn't afford the pay cut to be one. Regardless, to suggest I and others here haven't studied or can't understand Friedman, Sachs, or even Keynes is just a bit arrogant, don't you think?

It's interesting to me that somebody would suggest a single nation accounting for 24% of the world's GDP should not be considered "the main economic power house." Now, if you want to talk about fiscal responsibility and policy of individuals and governments, we may be able to agree on some rather undesirable trends and that those trends may point to some very negative consequences for what still remains the single most dominant economy.

Yeah, but our government and the Soviets are already competing with that given all the human launched space debris falling back to Earth.

But all that's a net-zero, launched from the Earth, returning to Earth.

The "Stardust" was an interesting one in that it was a hybrid. Probe left the Earth and returned, but picked some stuff up on the way and imported it!

Im getting so sick of these TFR's Obama's security team sets up. I keep getting grounded because of them:mad3:....A few people have said it but why does so much money need to be spent protecting a PUBLIC SERVANT....someone who is suppose to be working for us..../rant....sorry havnt flown in a week because of this and im just a wee bit angry:frown3:

Especially given my lack of participation in the thread, other than pointing out that Felix doesn't understand economics himself regarding his car.
