EZ speed limit

why is such a sleek design only getting 200kts? What is cruise for the piston versions?

Max speed on Wiki is listed at 161kts. Not sure if that is Vne. It looks like a side-by-side. Wider, more drag. Just guessing though.

For experimentals, I thought you could put basically any numbers in for cruise, Vne, etc. If he strengthened the wing, for example.

The airplane for sale is a Cozy. Essentially a modified, widened, strengthened EZ. Originally, I think this airplane had a rotary engine, then it was changed to the jet. It was built/owned by Greg Richter - the former president of Blue Mountain Avionics.

One thing - he doesn't list the 200 knots as a limit, just the cruise speed. I suspect it could go faster - 200 knots is attainable in a slight descent in a prop driven Cozy, so the jet should be faster. What are the airframe's structural limits? Who knows. I don't think Nat Puffer, the guy who reengineered the EZ into the Cozy, either has the information or (if he does), is interested in sharing it.

It's like a Learjet in more than one regard - namely, after 2-2.5 hours it's coming down. One way or another. That turbine is thirsty.

It's also unpressurized.

The jet took a 1000 mile plane and made a 400 mile plane out of it.

If I recall correctly, the BD5 jet that used to tour for Bud was a 350mph aircraft. Put a larger engine in, maybe with an afterburner, and I bet you could beat 200knots. Lots of spare F14 engines out there.

The VNE of the EZ is most likely limited by aerodynamic flutter considerations. I don't want to be in that thing when it starts to shimmy and shake.

Were they saying how fast he was going? How did they manage that..........
