Embry-Riddle vs FBO/local

Isn’t that always the case with big gov?
Nope.

But I have a friend who makes an interesting point. We were talking about socialism vs. capitalism and he said, essentially, what's the difference? You wind up with the same thing: all the money in the hands of a few people.

I’d be very interested to hear how the drone job goes? I got my sUAS some time ago and built a decent drone, but putting food on your table with it I find very intriguing

You don't need a degree to be a drone operator though. From my understanding it's a job in the 20s/hr. Small outfits with likely poor retirement and medical benefits. 50ish-K job, maybe more if you burn the candle on both ends. Not bad for no degree required.

No progression to six figure RPAs like Preds, Reapers or Global Hawks though. The big money in unmanned vehicle stuff is with the DOD/DHS contract work. Usually requires federal govt sponsored training or military equivalent (and willingness to live overseas for the really crazy money).

Drone job pay varies widely based on experience. After part 107 came out, the barrier to entry was significantly lowered so most employers have low pay for jobs that just anyone with a drone can do. On the flip side, one of my students just accepted an offer flying drones for a GE company for over 150k. There's money to be made but a lot of the time you have to get your hands on some of the bigger more expensive platforms and payloads for the resume experience.

The company I work for is indeed on the smaller side but the insurance/benefits/etc are great. Of course all you really need is a part 107, a drone, and a pulse to get a drone job that pays on the low side but to get mine the PPL/degree combo put me on the top of the stack of resumes.

Those two things didn't get me the 3 promotions though, that was all hard work and results. A degree only gets your foot in the door!

IBTL,

Not one person on TV is interested in examining why the costs of education is so high, ROI, risk etc. No, they are all about changing who pays for it.

When I was in high school the college recruiters were ushered in and preaching how much more money can make and that's its an investment and all that, well investments hold real risks, especially when your economy is struggling to adapt to globalism. Hell your personal health is a huge factor...

Big investments can take a long time to pay off, assuming you are lucky enough, just look at a life long farmer.

A survivor of chronic illness since age 3, lost limbs at age 26, paid off all my student loans by 30, been debt free since. I still work full time using a wheel chair every day.

I am not paying for your kid's tech/college.

How come there's only one like button for this post?

Amazing to me that this board can’t seem to get out of its own way when it comes to politics and religion. People just can’t help themselves it seems, and thread after thread gets closed for this stupid nonsense.

There sure is a huge temptation to swing at the Pinata, right?

Did you know that here in the U S we not only have free education for grades 1 through high school, but even some free lunch programs.

It is amazing how we convinced all of those teachers to donate their time, and all those school buildings just built themselves.

And if they're free, can I stop paying education taxes now?

Nope.

That’s still big gov, when you let them get big enough that they control industry like that, it’s a failure of the people to maintain control of their own country. It would be like letting the cleaning lady and gardener boss you around your own house then demand 1/2 of whatever you make.

And if they're free, can I stop paying education taxes now?

Or just make people who want to use those crappy gov schools pay for it, I have zero desire to every have anything to do with that dumpster fire, yet I’m paying private school level money even though I don’t even have a kid, yup, I didn’t knock your wife up but you’re trying to force me to raise your crotch fruit for you.

And with the politics thing, well when we let the government get waaaaay too big, government/politics creep their way into everything, thus always come up, don’t like it work on getting governments tentacles out of every orifice of our lives.

Except for the people who make the most pay the least.

That's a pretty selfish attitude. Society benefits greatly from an educated populace. I don't have kids either, but I gladly pay my school taxes. I got a public education and judging by the private school kids I came across in college, it was far superior than what they're parents paid through the nose for.

Europe has much "more" gubmint than we do, and have 1/100th of the banal, inane, uninformed political conversations we do.

"Now that I've gotten through the door, can I turn around and shut it behind me?"

One of my favorite attitudes.

The schools weren't free when I attended; my parents paid taxes for them. And they're not free now; I pay a ton in taxes.

Where are these "free" schools you advocate?

Definitely tempting! But I’m hoping (urging!) people to resist taking the swing because a lot of otherwise good threads end up being locked. It hurts PoA IMO. There are countless other outlets on the internet to foam at the mouth about liberals/conservatives. :)

So you're okay asking society to pay taxes for you to have been educated, but you aren't okay with doing the same for others?

Now where would that idea come from? High earners pay a higher % and a much higher $$ amount of taxes.

This is what I was responding to:

It would be like letting the cleaning lady and gardener boss you around your own house then demand 1/2 of whatever you make.

The idea that those who make the most pay half of what they earn in taxes is absolutely ludicrous. I knew your exact response was coming.

Just make all schools pay-as-you-go; that'll prep the kids for their huge college loans.

True. My EFT is only in the mid forties.

The OP certainly better get ready, if he decides to stick with ERAU. Airline hiring isn't static. See my signature line. Caveat Emptor.

EVERYONE pays too much.

I actually think forcing others to (poorly) raise your kid is pretty entitled, do I say watch my dog or I’ll send armed men to drag you and your wife out of your house so I can sell it? No, that’s would be reprehensible

Euro land is filled with folks who have generations of upbringing and “education” telling them how they are subjects, not citizens. People don’t think indoctrination be like it be

I actually am not a 1%er, but the gov gets MORE of my money than I do, between property tax, sales tax, road tax, income tax, state tax, gains tax, all the “fees”, it’s all TAX

Out of respect for the rest of the board I'm going to let this conversation be. We've all kade our points and nobody is going to change their minds. Have a great day, fellas.

Didn't you say an educated populace was a good thing? We are all just trying to learn here. I guess pilots are too dumb to understand some points of view.

My side piece (shh don't tell my GF) is done with annual and dying to fly so I gotta go.

Education is good; arguing is unproductive.
