I wanted to get familiar with the G1000 in a Piper Archer, if anybody know how I can obtain this without shelling out 60 bucks to Garmin please let me know! I found a few torrents for it on some Russian trackers, but none have any seeds :(

I know there is an iPad app for it, but I heard it is not the best :/

G1000 or G1000NXi? I don't know that the straight 1000 is available any more, I had it on CD or DVD (!) 12 years or so ago but not sure if I still have it anywhere since like most people my computer no longer has an optical drive. It was buggy anyway.

If it's the NXi version you're looking for, $60 seems like a reasonable price assuming it's any good. I mean, that's what, 1/3 - 1/4 of an hour in the plane you're renting with it?

I’ve got a Beech G1000NXI usb I don’t use anymore but am planning to keep it around for future use.

If you can’t afford Garmin’s $60 charge, I’m not sure how to help.

There is no "good" iPad app. The iPad app is not from Garmin and may not reflect the way it is configured in your airplane. Besides, if you want dual screens, pretty sure you need two iPads which will cost a bit more than that $60.00.

Having three different ones, I think the $60 is more than worth it. You might be able to fine one of the old Nav III or DA40 non-Nxi versions in a few places for free (I think even Sporty's had one for a while), but that may or may not reflect your airplane.

And... good point from @RussR about which G1000. The Nxi has quite a few differences from the older versions.
