A con is in an air conditioned building/hotel with (usually) better food.

To quote my dear departed dad, “there should be a weight limit on spandex”

Having been to neither, but having seen both on YouTube, I feel I'm qualified to say you're wrong. I see sci fi cons having cafeteria type food while ren fairs have roasted turkey legs, sausage, and barbecue. Ren fairs also have archery, axe throwing, lots of beer, and they're out in the woods.

Now do SCA vs Oshkosh.
I have very limited experience with SCA but I've chosen SDCC over Oshkosh for many years and will likely continue to do so. It's one of the highlights of my year.

Nauga,
and the spectacle of it all.

SCA ?? Is that the same as SciFi Con?

SCA = Society for Creative Anachronism, the people who do swordfighting, jousting, make armor, etc. Lots of overlap with renfaire but different organizations.

Oshkosh is an event run by EAA (a society) which specializes in EAB (creating stuff) that is mostly piston-powered airplanes (anachronisms).

Turkey drumsticks. If you like them, then you know your venue.

Then there's "Steam Punk" which seems to be a meld of SCA and Ren. Yes, Steam Punk also has wenches.

"Getcha King's nuts here. Hot and salty King's nuts."
(heard at every Ren Fair, Probably)

I don't attend SCA gatherings, Rennaissance fairs, comic conventions, Harley HOG meetings, or pretty much any other costume events. I might make the occasional exception for a Halloween party, though.

I show up at SCA/Ren Faire dressed in Star Trek uniform and tell them I'm breaking the Prime Directive.

The old Valley Forge Convention Center had two levels, which could be used to host independent events whey they didn't have anything big enough on the schedule to use the entire center.

I once went to a gun show there, when the other level was hosting a Star Trek convention.

The scene in the parking lot was hysterical...guys dressed in camo hauling rifles and ammo intermingled with people in costume and makeup packing plastic prop weapons, everyone eyeing one another with great suspicion.

Here's a minimalist approach to RenFaire costuming:

I’ve heard tale of people mounting winches in their hangers. I guess that’s different than wenches in their hangars!

Of the two, I prefer a wench in the hangar. Or anywhere for that matter. Preferably a lusty wench.
