Daily Pic

Trip to Grapevine Airstrip (88AZ) yesterday. Only 70 nm from the home drome, but a world away. The terrain colors were muted by the high overcast, but amazing nonetheless. 88AZ is maintained by volunteers from Arizona Pilots Association and Recreational Aviation Foundation in cooperation with USFS. APA holds monthly weekend camping fly-ins at 88AZ in the non-summer months.

Half of these photos look like they belong in National Geographic!

Some pics from our recent trip to the Bahamas. This year was the first time that we had to go IFR most of the route (Fort Pierce to Stella Maris / Long Island), so these are pictures from the flight back to the US. I will post some pictures over the next few days.

So I went down to KLAL to pick up the club plane after paint and check this out… it wasn’t ready! I mean, we have student pilots waiting for months and this shop didn’t have the decency to finish their job!!! I’m so appalled…

I get there and ask for a status and they show me…

Haha just kidding, this was the ride back:

We had a nice ride KLAL-KABY-KMBT-KDPA… in all 10 hours. This airframe probably had the least amount of avionics I’ve ever flown with, so that was fun!

I miss flying in the Bahamas now that I’m on the wrong coast!

You can always tell the Cessna pilot by the scar on the forehead.

You can tell the intelligence of the Cessna pilot by the number of scars on the forehead...
My CFI was short enough that he didn't have to worry about that issue unless the flaps were down, lol. He commented a time or two during the Private training that he wondered if he'd be able to wrestle the controls from me if I froze up on something, but luckily that was never an issue.

Hay Stack Butte looking north to the East Buttes of Montana. 8000' flight level.

Amazing pictures!!
Here is a picture of the Bahamas I took from my 172…

No I am lying, I didn't take the picture! My buddy sent me this picture from the cockpit of a 737. The only way my 172 could get this high is if the space shuttle dropped it from space!! lol

I have one of those ADF’s if you want it lol

I enjoyed my flight a couple of weeks ago over the Salt River canyon to Grapevine (88AZ) so much, that I brought Mrs. P along this time. On the way there we flew a more southerly route past the Superstition Mountains and the huge copper mine at Globe AZ, and landed at the San Carlos Apache Airport (P13). The Apache Gold Casino is right across the highway, so we had breakfast and dropped $20 in a slot machine before heading on to Grapevine.

Love the spare battery containment system !! :)

I’m jealous Jeff. I bet they STILL don’t have fuel at San Carlos.
We didn't try it. The weeds are getting high in the pavement of the parking area, the ASOS only broadcasts wind and altimeter, and all the lights are out of service. There's a windsock, but it's really hard to spot from the air. It's pretty basic.

What a shame. It has so much potential to be a nice airport with a nice hotel/casino right across the road.

Those are some National Geographic shots... may I ask what camera you're using?

Most of those were shot with a Sony RX100 - nice and compact for inflight use. The three wide-angle shots were with a GoPro Hero 7 in still mode, and the second shot of that set was by Mrs. P with her iPhone 8. All edited with Luminar Neo and Topaz DeNoise AI.
