Picked up 5 more IL airports this morning; got the prop tips green on the archer.
Started out at CPS (St Louis Downtown)

Then hit H49 and H07...I'm jealous of this house at H07:

From there went up to Rushville (5K4) & startled the guy baling

And hit Havana (9I0) for cheap gas. The card reader was down, but the luckily the manager happened to be there and turned the pump on, then told me to send a check when I get home. They have a really neat airport and are building a little "control tower". He said they're also working on plans to add a paved runway.

Visibility was terrible. First time I've flown in 3-5 mile visibility, I could see it being a real problem for a vfr pilot. I hope it clears up by the weekend for osh arrivals. It was much worse near cmi& bmi than stl.

somewhere in there, there is the city of Kennesaw or at least the outskirts of it.... if its this hazy everyday here, i am moving back to ND soon

Honored to have lead the Missing Man Formation today, honoring the passing of a decorated world war II veteran over Fort Sam Houston. We also flew the folded flag to be presented to the family. The photographer grabbed our flyover at the right moment to still have dash 3 high in the shot, about to go into the Sun. It was truly emblematic of the moment.

Still one of the best looking airplanes out there.

This past week I had occasion to fly a nice glass-panel Cessna TR182 from Goodyear, Arizona, to Bremerton, Washington, and return with a VFR Mooney M20F. Along the way my wife and I were able to visit friends and family in Vancouver WA. It was my first visit back to my 21-year home field, Pearson Field (KVUO), since we moved away almost five years ago.

Leaving Arizona, we sidestepped some morning convection north of Blythe, stopped for breakfast at KWJF (Lancaster CA), then landed for the night at KMCC (Sacramento CA). The rooms at the Lions Gate Hotel are the remodeled officers’ quarters from the old McClellan AFB, and the old Officers Club is now the hotel restaurant and bar. The rooms are appropriately decorated.

Wildfires in northern California and southern Oregon put a lot of smoke in the air. Between Redding and Roseburg we had legal VFR visibility at 10,500’, but no discernible horizon and not much view of the ground.

First landing in almost five years at former home-field KVUO. It was heartening to see the historic airport and its FBO/flight school so busy.

On Saturday I flew the TR182 to Bremerton, swapped airplanes, and returned to KVUO in the Mooney. The restaurant at Bremerton is closed now, but there were a couple of pretty Wacos to look at when I arrived.

A couple of days later we set out for home in the Mooney.

The fire in the northern California Sierras was still going strong. Our headwind was evident in the direction the smoke was being blown.

After a very long and hot day, with stops at KRBL and KVIS, we arrived at KTRM for an overnight stop. We wanted a fresh start for the last leg to Phoenix in the morning, before the daily convection fired up.

We're wearing PoA shirts next time.
But, I guess if I only have one it's going to be pretty sweaty by the end of the weeko_O
