Thanks, need to put this one on my list!

Finally made it to Catalina this week. Though I'm born and raised in SoCal, I've never been there before, so I thought it was appropriate to fly there in a plane I built in my freaking garage! The new concrete runway is bumpier than I thought it would be and the landing fee of $35 is a bit steep. But my friend Erna and I had a great time, the views did not disappoint and the bison burgers were excellent. Not a huge fan of flying over the water (even though it's only 20 miles or so); but we went up to 8500' for the crossing to give us decent gliding range.

Got a Go Pro from @pigpenracing and took it out for first time. Need a mount for it. The I-Phone RAM mount was to loose, so had to much vibration. Grabbed this screen shot going into M53 the other day. Will get a good mount for it. Any recommendations on a good mount?

Was admiring this TBM as I walked across the ramp yesterday, then I noticed the "Landoll" sticker on the vert. stab. Landoll manufactures trailers, forklifts, and farm machinery, and I have a couple of landoll farm implements myself. Posted this picture to a farming group I'm in, and found out that Don Landoll is an aviation enthusiast, and flies the corporate plane himself. Apparently he also spent a lot of money revitalizing his local airport and several other local civic organizations.

My wife and I went for flight on Sunday Morning to go see Black Rock City. This is as close to it Burning Man as I will ever go.

From the stories I have hear burning man is insane.

Insane was probably correct when it was smaller. The biggest complaint of long time attendees is the commercialization of it.

Big well funded teams with giant commercial tents and corporate funding or just multi-millionaires forking around with their weekend spending cash. LOL. Like the airplane carcass that was delivered to the desert and then abandoned on some private property out there as a prop.

I know someone who’s gone for many many years and is on a big art team and such. He’s really into the older ethos and rules of the thing. He’s got video from a GoPro strapped to his head chasing a cowboy hat blowing in the desert wind, supposedly nude, and almost guaranteed high. Of course it’s from his POV so all you see is the hat and the dust and him chasing it. And not that many surprised looks from anyone. Once you know he’s naked and he tossed in the occasional “hi” or “howdy” to folks as he’s chasing the hat, the video is really funny. He does get a few reactions.

He’s the stereotypical free spirit. Also a bright person with organizational and planning skills along with get it done skills when building the elaborate large mechanisms and artwork. Architect for his day job.

He hasn’t gone in a couple of years. Says it’s not the same anymore with all the tourists and big money.

Nice pics guys...so jealous of those mountain vistas and small runways. Here in FL we have swamps and beaches to look at, very boring. Would much prefer to cruise over some rolling hills or sneak into a small strip next to a mountain somewhere.

Keep posting!

"Alright, fess up! I know you're lying about something..."

The plane is lying lol
Oh yeah... somebody mentioned it is registered as a 700, but from brief internet research, the 850 name is just a marketing term for newer, improved 700's. This being a 2011, it is a legit "850" 700. That said, I know nothing about it that isn't from wikipedia.
