Aloc is also a medical term used whenever someone has an altered mental status for whatever reason. I spent 10+ years riding ambulances and fire trucks.

The NTSB comments on the Ted Stevens crash are an example of what’s wrong with many NTSB reports. They say the probable cause was a lapse of consciousness but quickly follow up by saying they have no way of determining that. It was reckless for them to suggest incapacitation without evidence. But it was easy, and they needed to say something after such a high profile accident.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines that the probable cause of this accident was the pilot's temporary unresponsiveness for reasons that could not be established from the available information.

In that case, I get ALOC every time I fly. It always alters my mental state.
