Crash at gold course near KSMO Santa Monica

Wow, Harrison Ford. Hope he makes it ok. This story is about to get a ****load more attention from the media.
 
Looks like a PT-22??
 
One headline said he was seriously injured...but then I read another story that said he just had some gashes on his head before going to hospital.

The plane looks nearly intact and like he did a good job getting down into what was probably a tight 300-400 yard space on a golf course.
 
Hope he is OK... and glad no one on the ground was hurt...

Looks like more fuel for the anti-KSMO as we're sure the media is going to lead story carpet bomb this one for the next few days...
 
Local radio reports are that it was Harrison Ford; serious but non-life threatening injuries.
 
I dunno... spun properly, this could be good for the airport.

Glad he's okay -- he's a good dude. He stopped by our FBO once and we didn't shut up about it for weeks. :D
 
PT22........Ford outside the plane when paramedics arrived, was conscious and responsive and injuries described as moderate trauma. Looks like he will make it. Wrapped up like a mummy tho when they put him in the ambulance..........
 
As stated earlier, this is Harrison Ford's 1942 Ryan PT-22, N53178. A UK tabloid ran pictures of him flying it just last week.

Just watched the circus press conference...moderate injuries and talking...what ever that is...not a single person with any aviation experience talking..
 
If Santa Monica had only shortened the runway years ago this airplane would not have taken off from there and Harrison would not have been injured. . .

yes - thats how they think.

Don't know what the obstacles are or what the terrain of the fairway is but, On a relatively cool day, 300-400 yards is not "tight" for a plane that has a 500' ground roll. My straight tail 182 has a longer ground roll than the PT-22 and I regularly go into a 1000' field that's obstructed on one end.

Granted, not on a 90 degree day but still..

Golf courses off the ends of runways are a good thing. He may have some head scars to match his well known chin scar but hopefully nothing worse.
 
From the last line in the article:

"72-year-old Ford is a longtime aviator -- piloting planes and helicopters -- and has crashed multiple times in the past." [emphasis added]

I wonder why he's had so many crashes?

I'm sure that's true but with no engine power and suddenly having to put it right on a spot with all the stress that comes with that, it'd be a challenge. Golf courses aren't flat and are full of obstacles. Not saying I couldn't do it. I'm just saying he did a good job.
 
Hope he makes a speedy recovery. Sure hate when these sorts of things happen as it lessens the general publics thoughts for GA even more than what they are. :mad2:
 
Yup, news confirmed that it was Mr. Ford and is in a stable condition at the hospital.
I did not know that he owned a warbird too.

Glad to see he is OK,one of the greater spokesman for GA. He was the spokesman for young Eagles,he definately has the aviation bug. Not abad actor either.

On a serious note, I am really glad he's ok. I just hope this does not give more ammo to the crew that wants to shut SMO down.

You think this line of thinking is confined to this area? Pretty sure all the NIMBYs that move in next to airports then want them shut down share this mentality regardless of locale.

"Scary Mary's" comments in the CNN article are also what you'd usually expect from her. Really like the headline "Expert: Dangerous Plane" Sheesh!
