future pilot?

Guest
Hello,
I recently obtained my first class medical certificate (within the last month), and during the examination the doctor never mentioned anything but my high BMI or sleep study so I did not disclosed that I use a CPAP. Without getting into a long story, I misunderstood from my regular doctor that I didn't need it and just needed to lose weight so I didn't openly discuss it. Is my future in aviation ruined? what I do need to do?

You don't just buy a CPAP at Walmart, there was almost certainly a doctor visit involved. If he prescribed one YOU DO (or DID) NEED IT as far as the FAA ins concerned. The fact that you might not need it anymore if you lost weight is irrelevant.

Anyhow, a SI for sleep apnea treated with CPAP is largely a paperwork exercise. You need printouts from the device showing you're regularly using it.

Sooo unfortunately that is the case for this matter. I purchased one years ago at Walmart after the insurance gave me the run around.

Well....you can "just" buy a CPAP machine and use it?

I have friends who have done so and are reaping the benefits without the drain of the healthcare system's bureaucracy and cost.

FB market place is a resource to purchase these machines. The newer Resmed machines are automatic and are easier to setup and operate. All the info is available online to learn and use this equipment.

In the US, it is illegal for anybody to sell you a CPAP without you having a prescription. There's more to the story than meets the eye.

Yeah.

The relevant question is, "Did you honestly answer all of the questions on the Medxpress application?"

It does not ask whether you use a CPAP machine. But it does ask about conditions, diagnoses, and doctor's visits. OP, if you answered these honestly, the AME decides what needs to be discussed and to what depth.

....and you did not.

You need this:
and a copy of your sleep study.
A healthy dose of truthtelling
and get your nose on the floor and beg for FAA forgiveness.

And for GOD's sake don't give them evidence of flying until you have the Special issuance (like taking a checkride which they will make you do over). The sad part is if you had been honest (and I'm not sure you are wtih regard to purchasing a CPAP machine), the AME could have issued you on the spot.

What @bbchein says. He is the expert.

I did my sleep study in between 1st class physicals. While in between the 5 months,I got the CPAP, letter of compliance, proof of use and showed up to my next 1st class with everything in hand. I was truthful on the MedExpress since I did have a drs visit and a new Rx (CPAP). The AME issued my first class renewal on the spot since I already had the letter of compliance, sleep study, and proof that it was working.

It was really easy. Unfortunately, it seems you may have put yourself in a corner by not being honest on the MedExpress application.
