Colorado Keystone Cops

It was agonizing to watch that live on TV for 25 minutes. Guy stole three cars in a row while being filmed by a news helicopter, and the cops couldn't even get close to him until he crashed the second time.

Pathetic work, guys.

From an update
"...E470 (interstate toll road) ...Driver veering wildly in and out of lanes, clipped at least one car and exited and hit another car."

Did you ever consider that high-speed chases are not always that effective nor safe? LEOs even put down the sticks (nails, etc to puncture the tires) that he avoided (easy - big shoulders on that road). Reported speeds by the helicopter were over 100 mph.

What would you have them do? Open fire? Press the magic button and the guy gives up?

Maybe punks like this should remain in jail?

Yeah I get it. The guy had enough time to wreck one minivan, try to steal another car, recover the wrecked minivan after a failed attempt, drive off, and steal another car.

E.g. they couldn't even shadow a speeding minivan.

You don't really expect the post-crime documenters to actually respond and interrupt or prevent a crime do you?

When I saw Colorado Keystone cops I thought we were going to be talking about the Dillon police force.

Less policing is more. 4 year old in the car, shooting a bad idea, as is high speed chasing. Kid is OK and they caught the guy seems alright to me.

Serve and Protect?

Only warrants and their own asses.

Very true. But since they can't and don't stop crime, not making it worse by shooting at people and crashing cars at high speed is good err better police work.

Holy ****! It must be freezing in hell.

I agree with you on this. It is extremely annoying to me to hear about high speed chases over property. Innocent people get injured when a police officer(s) get all worked up when backing off and getting them later works so much better. The only time I can imagine continuing a pursuit is in the matter of a kidnapping.

A couple of years a go in Anniston Alabama two teens failed to stop and tried to out run the police. They ended up causing a wreck killing two people. All over running a stop sign or something stupid like that. The chase went through two counties.

No analogy here. There is a big difference between a failure to stop, and multiple carjackings and a kidnapping. Fleeing subject was dangerous, and possibly armed. Opening fire on the vehicle, if able, wouldn't have been imprudent.

It ended just a few blocks from my work. Fortunately for me, I was playing hooky and flying this morning. Lessons learned for motorists ... lock your doors! Don't open the doors and get out after a fender bender accident. I think had he been met with a .45 caliber muzzle at a car door, it may have changed his mind a little?

I love when armchair critics sit in safety of their own home and critique those who are engaged in a dangerous and chaotic situation. We're only allowed to do that when we're watching sports!

As do I. But I'm not alone in my observation. The CHP motor cop I had coffee with later that morning had the same take. Well, not really, his take was much less congratulatory.
