Thanks for the post, brings lots of questions to mind. I bet the folks that traveled on the clipper were in the upper 10% of the income level. What was the cost of fair? Was the clipper pressurized? What was the cruse altitude? Navigation looks interesting..

Yeah, thanks for the post. Those were fantastic airplanes. That was a pretty horrific story about the Japanese arresting and executing all crew and passengers on a commercial airline flight in order to gain some engine technology. I'm surprised to have never heard of this before if it is true.

wikipedia lists some fares. As for navigation I think they used foreflight v 0.01 on a preproduction ipad. Dunno fer sure.Thanks for the post, brings lots of questions to mind. I liked the simple flight instruments. Needle, ball, and airspeed fer sure.

Barbarism seems a bit relative at times depending on one’s perspective or bad luck.
BTW, these days you can inadvertently tour Laguardia’s old Marine Terminal where the Clippers used to dock if you just rent a car there while all the construction is underway. It’s used as kind of a hallway between rental car bus stops. Beautiful murals there from the golden age of travel.

The pan am clipper they refer to was thr Hawaii Clipper. A Martin not Boeing. They didn't land at Truk for fuel. The Hawaii Clipper was lost between, Guam I believe, and the PI. It made several position calls from 500mi off thr coast and they searched for days/weeks for it. They even found an oil slick about 50 mi from its last know position.
That they were taken by IJN or other Japanese forces and murdered is a TIGHER level conspiracy theory.
