Got the following message from the Cessna folks. Guess I'll just have to take a ride and see what the Mustang's like <g>

David, you and Jay are scheduled for a Mustang pilot demonstration flight on Friday December 7 at 10:00AM - Dallas Love Field - Business Jet Center (8611 Lemmon Ave.). I look forward to meeting and appreciate your interest in a new Cessna Citation Mustang. If there is a change, please give me a call. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Well......there are just some unpleasant things in life SOMEONE just has to do! I'll try to just grit my teeth and get through it. They did insist. We told 'em we really weren't prospects right now. I'll try to send a pic of them escorting my partner and I out with our arms bent up behind out backs :rofl:

I've got to say, out of all the other VLJs out there right now that I've had a chance to see in person, the Mustang looks the most like a big airplane. It really is pretty massive (and really wide) when you're standing right next to it, unlike, for example, the Eclipse.

I think the Mustang may find some buyers even for people who aren't pilots - it would be perfect for a wealthy couple or single person, or small family, who would hire a pilot for their private limo. With full fuel, a single pilot, you can carry 600 lbs of people and stuff for 1167 NM. Take out some fuel for a more reasonable 800NM distance and you can carry more stuff. Operate out of 3500-4000 foot runways and you can avoid the congested hubs and still travel quickly in style and comfort. Some charter ops may find this a reasonable alternative to a small King Air.

Hmm... I need to find me a sugar daddy/momma who needs an airborne limo and chauffeur.
 
So do the Cessna people know what you look like...cause if you were to "accidentally" get hit on the head with something heavy, it'd be a shame to let your time slot go to waste...I, for one, would be willing to introduce myself as Dave!

The real world problem with the small jets is that when they fly into the Northeast and Southern California, ATC keeps them low and the fuel burn penalty is massive. Maybe that will change as the ATC mindset changes, but I'd hate to drop $2 mil+ on that hope.
 
That's really cool, Dave. Better lock that checkbook in the vault at the bank, and send me your key, and leave the other with the bank, before you take the ride... :-)

Actually Spike, the Cirrus Jet seems closer if I'd ever purchase a four seater. I'm really a six seat guy; so, that's not as likely as some other alternatives.

Felix:

Both the Eclipse and the Mustang have range and payload pretty close to what I'm flying now (the P-Baron). The Eclipse will fit in my current hanger and has dimensions close to my current plane. The Mustang is quite a bit bigger as you have said and almost a million more. Lots of questions about whether the Eclipse will be around; the Mustang is here.

Mustang One was flying yesterday while I was winging my way to San Diego :D Kinna o fun to listen to on the Center freq.

I hadn't given much thought to the hangar issue. This might really be a problem around here - the only hangars I could find are shared FBO ones, and the space they have probably wouldn't be enough either. That or a 10 year waiting list....

No decision to be made really:D Mustang may be in my future, but not today!

We are thinking we'll get some time in a King Air for awhile; we'll let things shake out a bit more before moving toward anything. There should be more choices and some existing planes will have proven themselves (or not)!

The limited capital I have access to will be better served finding new deals in this market downturn. Even if one can afford one of these, the alternative use of capital has to be considered and these things aren't investments.

Thanks for your thoughts. Lots of things to consider. Lots of marketing hype to wade through.

BTW, I'm not a new car buyer either! I wait for them to come off lease and get them two or three years old.

Yeah Dave, that King Air 350 I read about this year looked pretty nice... great performance and roomy! Drop a check for $5.9 million and it's yours! :)
 
I know of a handful of Beech 1900s in OKC that are off lease looking for a new home...it's basically a bigger (and massivly over-powered) King Air 350.

Thanks for the suggestions. I believe we're going to get some block time in an a or b model to get current and square with our insurance folks. The C is very nice. We're finding an early 80s model with nice avionics and lower time engines can be in our price range. It might be fun to fly some of those other birds, but the fuel burn alone would probably drain my Granddaughter's college fund <g> The C model with the new engine upgrade sounds good to us.

Don't know much about the 1900, but we really are only six seats and a potty types. We find more room and more power means more money!!

Mustang One? A casual friend of mine was the first delivery customer. And if you ever get serious about one, I'm sure I can arrange for him to share his experience to date.

Whatever we do fly to Gastons, you will be welcome to fly in, but the plane may be outta Mountain Home. We'll see, but whatever, Tony is on my A list <g>

I've gotta put in my vote for the King Air 200 which I always thought would make a great personal airplane if you needed the room. It's faster than the 90 and doesn't have the regulatory issues of airplanes which are over 12,500 lbs. like the 350 and the 1900. No type rating necessary, for instance.

I've also sat in a Mustang which seemed like a nice, solid airplane, but it wasn't nearly as roomy as a 200.

I got to sit in it at Lakeland last year. From a pilot perspective, it looks like a pretty decent ride with enough room for A pilot and maybe a smaller pilot/right seat passenger. The avionics is an easy step up from the G1000 in piston aircraft.

But, to squeeze three more folks back there isn't realistic unless they are all well under 200 lbs and little to no luggage. Then to hold up for three hours, assuming full range? Two passengers, maybe. Four, never. Unless you're hauling members of the Mexican bullfighters? :)

I think a lot of folks are trying to cash in on their options and looking to use the money elsewhere. It's a goldmine for one who paid an option deposit a couple years ago.
 
I'm looking for six seats, but never carry more than four and stuff. I'm pretty under 160 and small; so, don't need the room of some bigger folks.

Planes are always a compromise. The Epic Dynasty looks great and they say full seats and full fuel, but they have extended range tanks that probably mean less than full seats and full fuel. One of the biggest issues is cutting through the hype and seeing what the plane will really do. I like the TBM site for that reason; full POH on there. I'm not seeing that on the Mustang or Epic web site. Ken and I have chatted 'bout that more than once <g>
