Isn't that done in a different context than when they do a audit on an A&P-IA.
Mostly it's an operations inspector, but I've had maintenance inspectors as well who check the maintenance "can" for discrepancies. That's after they do a "preflight" and usually find something minor, delaying the flight as we'd have to call maintenance control and sometimes send pics for them to look over. Most of 'em are just bumming a free ride and go thru the "official" motions I think.
