Broke my back and need HELP.....

Tony,
I hope you were able to make it to your appointment this morning. Be sure to update us when you are able.
Fingers crossed for you.
I got me an appointment on the 9th at 8:20 am. I am so happy. I want to shout out...YAA HOOO.I will keep everyone posted to the outcome. I can not wait.

I also found out the heart doctor, I go see the heart doctor on the 19th at 1 pm. I feel like celebrating. I have not been this happy in a long time. You have no idea. Maybe something will get done I am very hopeful.

I will keep everyone updated you can bet on that.

I needed this. YAA HOO....

I even made the appointment with Dr.Williams. Now that I do not understand. But I am not questioning it.

I held out and made it to my appointment. Friday night the wife woke me up with a pain killer and bottle of water. She said either I take it or she was moving. I was screaming in my sleep and she could not get any sleep. It helped I was not screaming but still did not sleep much.

Well I saw the doctor. Dr. Williams. I really like this man. So very caring. He was kinda upset to find in my condition another doctor sent me for a Discogram. He did not say alot except he could not believe it.

I am going in for another MRI as soon as the insurance approves it. He is hoping by the end of next week. Then he is operating.

He told me no way can I have a disc replacement or a fusion. My condition is just to bad. He said that all he can do is go in and relieve some of the pressure on the nerve that is being pinched. Nothing more can be done.

It is what it is. I told him if nothing is done I will be bed ridden in a month. He said yes he see's this.

I guess we have come to the end. We all know not a lot can be done, but they " the Doctors" are doing all they can.

The reason for the MRI. The doctor is worried something worse has happened because of that discogram. I am in so much worse condition now then I was before that darn thing.

Thanks again everyone for all the thoughts and prayers.

Tony
P.S. I found out what was going on with Dr.Tsang trying to get this appointment. Dr. Tsang office when they called they said I was outside of network. Come to find out when they ran my insurance or whatever it does not matter if they are in network or out of network. Its all paid the same. Nothing changes. If I never would have called it would have stopped at this. Thanks for the advice on this. I was truly lost.

Positive thoughts Tony, try to have hope. Hopefully the doc will be able to bring you relief..... then no more stupid **** like pushing cars or doing things you shouldn't when you feel better. I really think you are on your way to some relief. More prayers for you.

I agree as does the doctor. He believes he can help me. But the rest will be on me to do nothing. If I can fly I will be happy, even if its only 15-30 mins at a time.

Glad to hear you made it to your appointment. Get the MRI done (there shouldn't be a pre-approval issue with fee for service medicare) and see him. When you go to the cardiologist, ask him to type up a surgical clearance as you anticipate to have back surgery in the coming months. That way, if your back doc wants to schedule you, there is no hold-up with anesthesia to get you cleared for the procedure.

Good deal Tony,
Sounds like you found a good Doc there. Let us know how it goes.

Dr. Williams wants to have this surgery done in the next couple of weeks. He wants this MRI to make sure nothing new has happened before he does the surgery. He said once the MRI is done the surgery will be a couple days later.

Thanks again to everyone.

I am looking to get an ATV to get me out to the hangar. I could also use this to move my airplane, something with a winch for this. I want one with full fenders to keep from getting covered in dew from the early mornings. Something in the 400 size or larger.

If you have an atv setting around you just do not use anymore please let me know. I am not looking for anything needing work. I might have to make payments on this.

Thanks once again.
Tony

You're joking!

Glad to see that you are loking forward, however out of all the land based vehicles, a 4-wheeler is the last I would climb on after back surgery.
Get an electric golf-cart if you need on-airport transportation. They do a good job towing too.

In the midwest the ground gets really wet in the early mornings. Your feet will be soaked just walking a few feet in the early morning hours. My airplane gets covered with wet grass on every morning flight. One reason I do not like to fly early morning, but when else do we fly but early mornings.

For what I am needing an ATV for, it will be fine. I doubt I will be able to use it after surgery, but I doubt I will be able to do anything after surgery, for a while anyway.

A friend has an atv that I have used. Its not like I am out jumping hills with it. I just need transportation back and forth to my hangar. Even when the snow is on the ground. I need to be able to get to my hangar all year around. A golf cart would be more of a pain in the back then an ATV. They ride nothing like the new ATV's. A golf cart would be getting stuck all the time, after the smallest of rains. We have no pavement around here. Its all sod.

The newer ATV's ride like a Cadillac. I might have to modify it with a full support style seat. I have done that on lawn tractors. I can not ride a lawn tractor. They do ride like a log truck.

By the comments I can tell some have not seen nor rode a newer atv. They really are plush. Again I am not going trail riding.

Try to use a golf cart to get around in this. That building is my hangar.

I refuse to quit. I also refuse to give in to this darn disease. I will take it easy but I refuse to stop living. No way.

I know no way I am walking out to my hangar anymore. Its not happening.

Oh I have an update. I spoke with the Dr's nurse today. I go in next Tuesday for my MRI. She sent me a script of anti-inflammatory meds to the pharmacy for help with the pain in the mean time.

I also received a letter from the insurance. It says I enrolled in a sub standard plan that is bellow average from the other plans. They are giving me a chance to change this insurance. I tried to call the billing department at the doctors office to see if I should do this now. Seeing as we are planning for surgery and all. I never heard back. Maybe I will tomorrow. Should I just go ahead and change this? I have never been down this road before nor do I even know what plan to change it to. I am sure I will pick another sub-standard plan. That just seems to be the way it goes for me.

Something like this would work. But I must be realistic. All I know, I have to get something to help me not only get out to that building, but move that small airplane I fly. Without this help I will not be flying.

I always said the day I could not move my airplane out of my hangar by myself I would stop flying. Now that day has come. Do I stop, or do I adjust the way I do things?

I am needing something like this. Its affordable and has a wench. Remember I am not trail riding. Taking it slow going to the hangar. Not sure what else to do.

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/snw/4868265493.html

I would need financing to even get this.

Maybe I do need to hang up flying. Just watch others fly and enjoy the rest of my life from the sidelines.

Nope that does not sound like any fun to me. Not doing that.

..I thought you were planning on selling the toys so you could make sure you had the money to get your body fixed and life on track? I'm no financial advisor but adding an ATV probably isn't going to help matters...

The doctor made it very clear to me. There is nothing that can be done for me. He said if this was his body he would never do a fusion or disc replacement. He said there is nothing anyone can do. He can go in an relief some pressure that is being put on some nerves but that is it. He also said what the other doctors told me over ten years ago. I am to live a life as a 90 year old woman. Do what one does. Nothing more.

Well that is all fine and good. I will slow down and never lift anything heavy ect. But I refuse to roll over and die. I will modify what I do. It might take some help from friends and others, but I will do it.

I am not done yet.

Tony, one step at a time, one step at a time.. Fix your back, recover, THEN think about getting out to the plane. I get that you don't want to give up, but preserving the mobility you get after the surgery by taking it easy is not giving up, it is being smart and avoiding getting yourself back to where you are now. You need to be smart and do things in a way that won't aggravate your pain. Welcome to old age and the aging process. Everyone goes through it, it's just some, you for instance, need to make more adjustments, it's not the end of the world, it's just being smart. Don't f yourself up in some dumbass effort to do the things the way you did twenty years ago. Adjust and adapt. Keep up the good fight, but don't be stupid. No more pushing cars, atvs, airplanes or anything else a 90 year old woman wouldn't do, that's what your doctor means, he doesn't mean act like a 90 year old woman..... just be smart.

I have no idea what to say about your insurance, you give very little info, which is probably not a bad idea on a forum. Call your state insurance commission and ask if they have anyone who can advise you. I doubt the doctor will advise you as that's not his profession.

Of course they try to upsell you ;-)

pm me the plan you currently have, your zip code and what plan they are tying to sell you. Based on the plan documents I can give you an idea on what the financial impact is going to be.

I sure will do this. My wife has my insurance card, she is not home from work yet. When she gets home I will get you this info.

Thanks so very much for taking the time to do this.

Yes this is the problem. When they told me what the problems was, I was out to prove I could still do what I have been doing. Not understanding taking pain meds and covering up the pain was worse then dealing with said pain. For when the pain is covered up by drugs now I felt like I could do what I had been doing. Then when the pain meds wore off I was hurting worse then before from over doing.

With a problem like mine people say things like, lazy, burden on the system, don't want to work, ect. It gets much worse. I could tell you all stories of being almost beat by a mob of people because people like me who do not want to work and mooch off the system, but this is another story.

My point, I was out to prove to everyone I was not lazy, I could still do as I have done. Well we see what that got me..

Today I understand this. My biggest problem I have a very high pain tolerance. I have to learn that a little pain is but trouble for me. I need to avoid anything that causes pain.

So I started modifying my lifestyle years ago, now I must readjust. But I am not done yet. I refuse to quit.

Are you going to set up a Gofundme site for your ATV?

One thing that would cause pain is to swing your leg over the saddle of a 4-wheeler.

What doesn't cause pain is to plonk you butt on the bench of a golf-cart and to lift your legs onto the platform, one by one.

Just sayin.

Oh, and cosmetically ugly golf-carts are cheap. As you won't use it on a golf-course, you are not required to keep slick turf-tires on it but are able to use industrial tires.

Yes I would agree.

I have not thought about a go-fund account for this. I need to update that fund or just cancel it.

Thanks for reminding me of that fund.

I can not find a cheap one. They allow you to use them on the streets around here. Every since they started doing this, these carts bring a pretty penny.

I think Brad meant that tongue in cheek.

Oh I got what he was saying. With a condition such as mine, I have learned to ignore the condescending remarks from people such as this. People have Go-fund accounts for vacations and other things. Why not a go-fund for helping with my needs?

I never said I wanted someone to give me one of these. I said I want to pay for it but need help with the financing. If people like this Brad think all I am doing here is trying to get a hand out. All I can say, I hope they never have to deal with what I have.

Condescending remarks. I have heard them all nothing new here.

Tony

I need one of these. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/59254/Motorcycle-Photo-Gallery-Photo/2011-Polaris-ATV-Models.aspx

If anyone knows of one or would help me get one, I would be forever grateful. I am trying to get everything in order so maybe later this summer I can do something like fly my little airplane. Maybe that is asking to much. I don't know.

Tony

P.S. If you have any condescending remarks, please leave them to yourself. I have heard them all. One thing this thread has pointed out. Read this entire thread to get a good look at some of the members on this board and how they treat the ill. Some are very caring. Some not so much. Its all in black and white for the world to see.

I tell you I believe in a higher power.

I answered an add about a 4x4 atv type thing. It was posted by a young man. After talking with him I find this was his dad's unit. His dad passed away about 2 years ago from a bone disease. He used this to get around on his farm before he passed. It has under 1000 miles on it and get this. He was asking the exact amount of money I have in savings. That is about 3 grand under what this unit is worth. It has been setting since his dad passed, but I will have it gone over very well.
I really do believe we are being watched over by a higher power. We don't always get what we want. But we seem to get what we need.
Does that not remind you of some song...lol

Amen. You're not the only one...

I came to this thread late. It's an old one - September of last year. Without taking a look at it I dismissed it early on as something that was probably a joke but instead of going away as such threads do, it kept popping up on the first page of Hangar Talk. By the time I read it it had accumulated hundreds of replies and reading it through from the beginning I was/am impressed by how much free time many of us must have. Also has occurred to me this thread is the product of a sociology class or some data-seeking entity . . . some survey of gullibility levels of the pilot demographic? Who knows. Quite well done it would seem.

I am not sure how we got from raising money for copays and surgery and talking about selling planes to help to somehow asking for an ATV and then buying one that would completely drain the OP's savings. I was one of the 2 "funders" but maybe now that is going toward an ATV payment or something. I don't care I guess but something seems off now...

Ditto. I"m the other funder, but I never intended on helping subsidize anything but his medical needs. I'd have even donated more, but not for toys and playtime.

There ya go. If you want to criticize the man because he begged for money to pay for a medical procedure but now plans to ride his newly purchased ATV out to the hanger to go flying...well, you should be ashamed of yourself.

That's no way to treat the ill. The world sees your cynicism.

If you people believe my life is made up of play time. You know not what you speak.

If I lived in the city I would be asking for a wheel chair. But a wheel chair will not work out in the country. Build a wheel chair that can get around in the mud and snow and I will be looking to purchase that.

You people are not as educated as you believe.

As for your money you can have it back or I will donate it to someone else.

Excuse me for wanting to get around. Sorry it takes something that most of you view as a toy. But to me its just a way to get around. To the healthy its a toy.

How did we get here. Really you do not get this.

Lets recap.

I go to the doctor. The doctor after looking me over and an operation says I need an operation. I will never get this operation because my insurance will not pay for it.

I get a second opinion of my condition.

This doctor tells me that nothing can be done for me. There is no way he would let anyone operate on someone in my condition. The only thing that can be done is to make me comfortable by removing some pressure on some nerves. The doctor makes it clear in no uncertain words I have to slow down or I will be in bed the rest of my life.

Sorry if you people see this a play time for me. Nothing playful about this. I would just like to get around a little.

The healthy judging the ill. Walk around in my shoes for one day and you will be looking for something to ride too in order to get off your feet.

Tony

How about this. I need a wheel chair to get me around in the mud and snow. Anyone have any ideas?

Lets see how many have ideas or just want to argue.

I am done arguing my point. I am out of energy. If you can not see this by now you are blind.

Now its play time for me. I have a doctors appointment.
