I was thinking the same thing the other day, but while we get better fuel economy we are driving a lot more. But a lot of that is discretionary.

Not sure the where it comes from would change the price much. I can’t see Exxon Mobile saying “ya know we got this batch out of Canada so we’ll cut North Americans a break even tho international price is up”…. Not gunna happen

right I understand there’s different grades of crude from different regions. Just pointing out oil companies aren’t going to give anyone any drastic home field advantage on pricing of the end product…

While in general yes... but only if the produce oil/gas is put on the open market or exchange. For example, there are/were production contracts that sell direct to domestic refiners at a fixed price bypassing the current futures market of $119/barrel. Plus the local governments could wave taxes, etc. to keep prices lower domestically. So there are price options but very limited volume options at this time. Interesting times a head.
 
Gasoline is also a commodity. The different grades of crude just provide different margins, plus refining challenges. We had really heavy crude in the California field I worked. It sold at a big discount.
 
I'm an old man so I've been through this a whole bunch of times. Bottom line is - just frickin relax.

But the REAL bottom line is we all know the cause of this and my message to Mr P is that I'll pay twenty bucks a gallon if I have too. Pack your bags.

97 bucks to fill up my Jeep today. It would really suck to be making $20 an hour right now.

Pump stopped at $125 for diesel yesterday, lol. It was about 31 gallons. I already had over 1/4 tank to begin with, so didn't bother swiping the card again to squeeze in any more. Glad I filled up though, because the price shot up another $0.30/gal today.
 
132.53 +9.32(+7.56%) as of this morning when I woke up.

It is not like this was unexpected...

I heard that urea, the main ingredient in DEF fluid it’s also going to become in short supply.

Luckily (depending on how you look at it) I'm running a 6.0L Powerstroke which was pre-DEF. Mine might have mysteriously lost the EGR and cat as well. Darned thing just loses all those EPA-parts, lol.

There's a woman in my electrical test department, makes a little less than $20/hr, owns an H1 Hummer. Loves it, says she'll never sell, even at these gas prices. :hairraise:

Yeah, my 05 Duramax has some of those parts out for repair...

But I just paid over 5 bucks a gallon for diesel. So later this week that truck will get put up in the garage on jack stands for the duration.

Def is just a more pure version of the same urea we use to provide N to corn. It's more than doubled this year. People I talk to aren't worried about supply... the producers are making so much money at these prices they'll make as much as you want. I don't know the numbers, but I assume def consumption is a tiny drop in the bucket of urea consumption.

I've been hauling corn the last two weeks. $400 to fill up the truck yesterday, and it's only a 100 gallon tank. Thankfully I'll finish tomorrow and won't have to fill it again until harvest. $7 corn helps too. It's an '84, so def isn't an issue. At these fuel prices I'm tempted to start pouring my used engine oil in the tank. I hear they don't even smoke too bad at 20%.
 
Wouldn't surprise me if someone suggests it, lol
