He is from So Cal. He made his fortune under the economic growth provided by democrat's(before Nixon/Reagan began this right wing downward spiral of our economy). Really I thought it was the putting aside of our personal issues to help our fellow men as we did in WW2. There was a situation where we could not afford to feed ourselves but we came to the aid and assistance of our friends in England. A few years later we were attacked by the Japanese and Germany declared war upon us. Those allies then worked with us to defeat the enemy of humanity.

Well, we already had the nazis mentioned, but somehow that is to be expected in a thread that has 'gun' in the title.

Really, I am curious how well this little thing shoots. Do you have a chronograph ? Would be interesting to see how much or little muzzle energy such a short barrel can get out of the modest powder load in a .380 (and how the bullets look after going through a surplus thawed thanksgiving turkey ;) ).

Notice the part about driving? You are not required to have a passport if you are driving. Considering the fact that I had to prove my citizenship when I had previously renewed my driver's license, I suspect that it met the other provisions of the ID requirement. Regardless, Mexico doesn't really care about Anglos coming down there to visit. Like all tourist places, they want our money. The only issue is when you come back across the border. In my case, the border guards apparently figured that a bald headed old Anglo fart like myself who was riding a Harley and had a Texas driver's license was not trying to enter the country illegally.

You state in your profile that you are in "Cary, IL". Why would that be my bad track record for judging your residency? You stated that you had previously lived in San Angelo. How long? Why the move? Most people that I know move from up north down here to get away from shoveling snow.

These days, there's not much difference... Democrats are Socialists and Republicans are Capitalists... Although if you really want to get picky about it, there is getting less and less difference between the two since they are trying to say whatever is necessary to get the most amount of votes. Of course, that's not to say that they will hold to their campaign platform after they are elected. Politicians have a bad tendency to say whatever is necessary to get elected and then do as they like.

According to the link on that site DL from Michigan, New York, Vermont and Washington are the only states that meet that requirement. http://www.getyouhome.gov/html/lang_eng/eng_edl.html

Yu had said if I had lived in Texas I would have a certain view point. As I showed I had lived in Texas. In fact I had lived there on two separate occasions. Neither time did the residency cause me to throw away common sense nor knowledge of the reality of how rights are derived in order to justify a positionl But then I lived there before Fox News was on the air so maybe that had something to do with it. :D:D

Nope... Texas DL... I looked back in my email archives to verify the date of the trip and it appears that it was either in the last week of September or the first week of October of 2009. As such, it was definitely after the new rules had taken place.

I will agree that the US likes to restrict our travel. Otherwise, we would be able to go to Cuba... Not that I really have a desire to go to Cuba -- if I want to see Cubans, have Cuban sandwiches, and hear people speak the Cuban version of Spanish, I'll just go to south Florida...

You would probably have felt right at home in Austin then... We tend to keep all our liberals over there (although some do escape and infiltrate our other cities from time to time).

Thanks the the military, I've had the chances to live in a lot of different places around the country and had my share of government sponsored "travel destinations". Texas used to be a lot better 40 years ago, but then again, a lot of places were alot better 40 years ago. These days, I work at a various places around the US -- some better than others, some a LOT better than others. No one place has everything. There are places where I would definitely not want to live again (e.g. Chicago, Norfolk, NYC) and others that might be OK to visit but not to live there due to the cost of living (e.g. San Diego). And then there are the places that are just too boring to even want to visit again (e.g. all of Iowa and Kansas -- after seeing the first hundred corn fields, the rest are a bit boring). My wife's family lives in the Houston area, so all of this pretty much becomes a moot point, just like with you...

Most of us conservatives are fine with a safety net for the disabled, children, etc. That compassion does not extend to people who refuse work because the job may be "beneath" them, doesn't pay well enough, is too far of a commute, or whatever.

It is certainly sad that you seem to think those that disagree with you are not your equal as an American. That attitude is what is wrong with our country.

And this movement towards a theocracy is what scares me about the Conservative movement. And before anyone cries that there are differences between social and fiscal conservatives you can stop. I don't believe it one bit. Because if there was the fiscal conservatives would have left the Republican party decades ago and become libertarian party members.

In my much younger days, I was not so picky about what job I took to survive. At one time, I even sold my blood plasma to get enough money to buy cold cans of pork & beans as my only food. Even so, I did not try to utilize public assistance to survive. Eventually, I got past this stage, got my life straightened out, got college degrees, and I would have to say that I am somewhat financially secure at this point in my life. Maybe not so financially secure that I am willing to retire, but I could easily survive 15-20 years with minimal changes to my current standard of living even if my stocks were not to increase in value at all and Social Security was non-existent.

Don't feel too bad... I grew up in the era of "the only good Communist is a dead Communist"... I don't think that there was anything wrong with our country when we had that attitude though...

They hated us... We hated them... And in the process, we created the SR-71...

Guns tend to be a political issue... As such, any talk about guns soon morphs into a discussion of politics... Eventually, all topics morph into discussions of guns, politics, or sex... This one started with guns, so it had to go to politics... Whether it will morph into sex, I don't know...

Don't lump all conservatives as theocrats. There are a notable, loud, and influential few, but by far I believe they are in the minority.

Getting back to the original thread.

Somebody posted a link to something like concealedcarryrights.com. Whatever it was, it was a really good resource that somebody has obviously put a lot of work into.

But, for those of you travelling between states, or even counties/cities in some cases, don't rely on things like that. If you screw up and break the law by accident, you stand a far better chance of getting some leniency if you can say, "I looked at all of the laws I thought applied beforehand" than if you can only say, "I looked at a website that seemed kind of cool."

The reality is that laws on hot-button issues change pretty frequently; given the recent Supreme Court decisions on the 2nd Amendment, we can expect more changes (probably in the more restrictive direction) in the future. It's nearly impossible to keep up with these changes between all 50 states.

So, with resources like that website, trust but verify. Look at the laws themselves, for the state where you live, for the state where you're going, and for every state in between. It might be a PITA, but 5 minutes now might save you $5,000 in attorney fees or fines, perhaps even jail time, down the road.

Trust me - I have enough lawyers put briefs on my desk citing laws that changed two years ago, and they don't know it, because they didn't bother looking at the actual laws themselves (it usually just ends up being embarrassing for them). I'd hate to see someone get in criminal trouble for the same reasons. Even if charges get dropped, being arrested is a huge PITA and will follow you around (because you have an arrest record).

So, keep that in mind.

These laws are pretty easy to decipher - the toughest part is usually finding them. If anyone ever wants a point in the right direction, feel free to PM me.

These pink guns remind me that not too long ago in the scuba industry that they were trying to appeal to women. So they marketed equipment in pink. The manufacturers changed nothing other than the color.

Now if that gun had a Hello Kitty logo on it. Well I might even buy that model!!! :D:D

I agree. luckily the number of people defrauding the system is small & some of them get caught, I would like to think most, but i cannot prove it either way. Now if we can get a handle on the corporate theft & fraud which is a HUGE amount of money not the pittance that goes to welfare we can save enough to maybe even lower the peoples taxes. at one time, not that long ago the government ran entirely on corporate taxes. How have corporations (who can't vote) put the burden on the people? rhetorical question because we all know they BOUGHT IT WITH GRAFT. halliburton/KGR/Blackwater stole us blind on unbid contracts that they often never completed or did such a poor job that our brave soldiers were electrocuted in the shower. AFTER we elimiate the corperate theft we can go after the little fish that take a few bucks of welfare they didn't really need. Dave

Girl with the pink gun needs to learn that doing the limbo while shooting firearms is not the best technique.

I really do not need either so both seems like overkill. I keep trying to decide if I should just get a shotgun and do some skeet with one of my friends. But my other friends keeps wanting to go do targets. I never owned a shotgun before and know almost nothing about skeet. I shot it once and sucked. Handguns and target shooting and I have done a lot.

Scott, I learned a number of years ago that when you are told to keep both eyes open when shooting a shotgun, it really does help. Before I tried it I couldn't hit clay birds worth beans, either. Too many hours on the rifle range when I was young.

That could be the issue with what I was doing to. I am too used to handguns and rifles.

I shoot skeet with one eye closed. It just takes practice - like anything. In my avatar I'm doing it with a tactical pump 12 gauge with a 18.5" barrel and ghost sights. Very much not a good skeet gun but it can be done.
 
I shoot a shot gun open eyes, try shooting skeet with a 16 Ga bolt action. THAT is difficult. why do you prefer an auto? I like my hammer-less S&W.38 revolver, light action and very reliable. Plus no hammer so it comes out of my pants pocket easily. The Hydroshock slugs are supposed to come out the other side with a softball sized hole. I had a 9 shot .22 that this replaced. the .38 is about the same physical size but 1 oz less weight. Dave

She does know how to shoot correctly. Unfortunately the photo was taken with her not in the correct position. She is not doing the limbo.

Nope, I ended up spending it in New York City with mom and now in Florida. I'm hoping to be at my house next weekend. I'm very curious to see how it shoots, and whether I'm glad I got it or not. I have a good feeling that I'll like it more than the KelTec and Ruger.
