Bombardier - will airline passengers fly a plane with that name?

Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, fly yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy.

Young man, there's a plane you can fly.
I said, young man, when you want to fly high.
You can get there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to fly in a Bom-bah-de-yea.
It's fun to fly in a Bom-bah-de-yea.

They have everything for you men to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys ...

It's fun to fly in a Bom-bah-de-yea.
It's fun to fly in a Bom-bah-de-yea.

You can get yourself there, you can have a good meal,
You can do whatever you feel...

Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, what do you want to be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams.
But you got to know this one thing!

No man does it all by himself.
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf,
And just go there, train in a Bom-bah-de-yea.
I'm sure they can help you today.

It's fun to fly in a Bom-bah-de-yea.

Young man, I was once in your shoes.
I said, I was down and out with the blues.
I felt no man cared if I were alive.
I felt the whole world was so jive ...

That's when someone came up to me,
And said, young man, take a walk up the street.
There's a plane there called the Bom-bah-de-yea
They can start you back on your way.

Hahaha. Very clever, and well done!

I wouldn't have thought of substituting Bombardier for YMCA in that song, and tweaking the other lyrics to fit. I am impressed!

My thought exactly. I was a little surprised the first time I booked a flight and it came up as a Fokker--all I could think of was WWI triplanes . . . But I. Are the same flight on the same equipment several more times before I moved.

A former coworker really likes his Canam 4-wheeler, made by the good folks at Bombardier. He reminded me frequently that they made jets, and that it was faster than all of his buddies various makes.

Don't think anyone will care about the manufacturer name of the airliner, any more than they do which airline they fly with, as long as the price is low enough to match the cattle car service.

I think most people are familiar with the name and company anyway, it's like General Motors was years ago, only even more diversified.

Wrong. The French word originally meant a soldier who threw bombs. Absolutely the name has a connection to bombs in linguistics, just as much as it will in the mind of granny and bubba when they board an airliner, if they see that name.

Which is the reason I ask, by what brand will they call the Bombardier CS300 when it must be called something, like when the flight attendant gives a safety briefing?

An FA (or nowadays video briefing) would pronounce it correctly.

Tell Ma and Pa Kettle to take the Greyhound or the olde flivver if the name of the aircraft manufacturer scares them...

So this discussion occurred a few years ago:

KAPC ground: "Arrow SA123, follow the bomb bard ee yey taxiing on the ramp to 18R"

SA123: "I see a big jet looking thing ahead of me."

KAPC ground: "Well then, follow the big jet looking thing."

I hope you used your best Chuck Yaeger West Virginyy accent.

And it's pronounced in the French fashion (Bom-bar-di-yea), not the English (bom-bar-deer), which further separates it from the military connotation.

This. Flew on one Sunday and Tuesday. Advised my brother of the "alternate" pronunciation. I try not to be know-it-all.

My wife learned to fly at IAD. Ground control frequently gave her instructions relative to other aircraft types (I did work on helping her learn the identification of various aircraft types).

GND: Cessna 73FR follow the Saab to runway 19L.
Margy: Is that the one that says United Express on it?
GND: Yes, follow that one.

of course she got her revenge one day when a 747 was told to follow the Navion.

747: What's a Navion?
GND: You see that little blue airplane down there. You get behind her and follow her.

Would passengers be willing to ride the Amtrak Acela Express? How about the MTA Redline in Boston? The KTPA People mover? A Sea-Doo or Ski-Doo? An Indian or Victory motorcycle? A BD-700-1A10 (aka 'Global Express')?

Yeah, it's a huge company, I think their marque is prevalent enough there would be no reaction at all, not that people notice or care anyway as long as it gets them there.

There also seems to be an unstated assumption that "bombardier" in English has a negative connotation to most people. That's not necessarily so, especially considering the importance of World War II in this country's history.
