Birthday fly-in/cook out at the farm

We are really glad that you are coming "irregardless" of the mode. :D

I told Bill Lynch that you might fly the Husky up and he got all excited. He has been shopping for one since he lost his airplane to the tornado. He's looking forward to talking with you about it. If he isn't too busy flying his balloon...several people have said they were interested in a balloon ride.
I know that Leslie and I are interested in a balloon ride! We're planning to arrive Saturday afternoon, and depart Sunday while it's still light out. This is all dependent upon weather, of course! Do you have that WAAS approach certified yet?

Sounds good! We'll have ribs Saturday evening. Yummmmmm. Hopefully Jesse will be joining us.

We're working on that WAAS. (  ) :D

In the meantime, I'm getting ready to fill the hot tub, so bring your suit. :)

Well, there are no unflattering pictures of you, but a picture of me in a bathing suit would be EXTREMELY unflattering! Only thing worse would be me NOT in a bathing suit!:hairraise:

I'll call this afternoon and ask them to update the GPS in the plane. Looks like there may be a little weather, and I don't have DME, so I want a current GPS.

We're working on that WAAS. (  ) :D

That would be awesome! "62G will take the WAAS approach into 08MO" "Umm... that's a grass strip" "I know! Isn't it awesome?"

We're celebrating my birthday at the farm this year with a fly-in/cook out on Sunday, Aug. 24th in the afternoon. I'll open up the aerobatic box over the farm and will plan on giving aerobatic rides and who knows what other kinds of flying we'll be doing. :) Y'all are invited to join us if you're in the area.

Diana, I saw you at Oshkosh. That was a great talk about your flying adventure! Unfortunately, I am on staff at Owl Canyon Gliderport for the weekend, so I won't be able to make the fly-in/cook out at the farm.

Please consider a western adventure!

For example, Colorado Pilots Association is hosting a fly-in (pre-registration and briefing required) to Marble, Colorado, a private, grass, mountain airstrip on Sep 5-7, 2008:

http://www.coloradopilots.org/calendar.asp?menuID=16~16

This airstrip is located just west of the town of Marble, CO in the Crystal River valley and requires mountain experience to use. Camping on the field, accommodations in the area, hiking, biking, fishing, horseback riding, and tours. Details on the website.

Note that Marble, Colorado is where all the white marble for the monuments in Washington DC and elsewhere in the US comes from. White marble is also found in Italy.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! Did we visit after the presentation? If not, sorry we didn't get the chance to talk.

Now someone needs to do a grass strip tour of the west and give a presentation about that!

Your fly-in at Marble sounds like fun! How far is that from Denver? We fly into Erie a few times a year to visit my son.

Spike, that means more than just your birthday suit. :p :D

:hairraise: No pictures. :D Besides, it will be dark and no one will see us but the coyotes and the owls and the giant moths.

Update on the plans. :)

Bill (the hot air balloon pilot) said that he has enough fuel for one long flight and he can stop and switch out passengers and go again up to about 90 minutes. He doesn't have a way to get more gas up here. He said he has a payload of 350 lbs max.

He is the guy who lost his TriPacer to the tornado last May. Here's the thread about that. So now he really wants to buy a Husky.

They took the chance of storms out of our forecast for Saturday and Sunday. :fcross: But it may not be windy enough to fly kites. But then now we can fly the Air Hog. :D

My brother is bringing his 4-wheeler.

As of now I'm planning on a Saturday arrival. It'll probably take me about six hours to get there.

I'm not sure how late I'll stay Sunday. Probably no later then 5PM--I guess it depends what is going on.

Oye, I sure would like to be there, but we just got the panels off today for annual. There's no way I'm going to be out by Sunday, unless we just whip it. I had hoped to get it open and ready on Wed, but work intervened.

Sorry, the timing just doesn't work for me, I have to get several little issues fixed, and I don't want to rush the job. Make it an annual deal, and I'll try next year.

Cool beans! We're glad you're coming! You have your choice of the hangar sofa bed, or the sofa bed in the house or the 200 acres if you want to camp. :) We'll plan on ribs for supper on Saturday.

We'll plan on eating at 5:00 so that you can eat before you go.

Sorry you can't make it. Maybe next year.

:fcross: for a ride soon!

Got the PM. Was it Dave Bear or someone else?

Someone else, though he never mentioned his name, and didn't give us a card......

Happy early Bday Diana. The ride was scheduled for today--but I just canceled it, (for a 2nd time-wx) and now the airplanes are all booked for tomorrow....

I hope you guys all have a good time:yes:

Thanks Brent. :) Wish you could join us.

I hope you get to take that check ride soon. :)

For those spending the night or traveling with designated drivers/pilots...we have a nice selection of wine now. Thank you Brian. :cheerswine: We wish you would have been able to join us.

Well, Grant and Leslie are in the air and I'm tracking them on FlightAware. If Jesse has departed he may be too low to track. ;)

I am departing now--a little bit of a late start--was up too late. I should be there at a fairly reasonable eveningish time. Cell: seven six three, two two nine, nine three four one.

Hope Jesse made it okay!!!
Yes, Jesse made it and he's flying the Air Hog right now. As soon as this storm passes Grant and I are going flying in the Citabria. Grant is going to try to figure out how to post pictures from here.

Looks like we will have about 45 or more people tomorrow.

See ya tomorrow Tim. :)

So, Leslie and I dodged a couple of thunderstorms on the last 20 miles, but made it fine, though we changed the landing runway because the wind shifted. Jesse made it on his bike. Here's a shot of both of our vehicles!

I wish I could have joined you, too. Happy Birthday! :cheerswine::cheerswine::cheerswine:

Happy Birthday Diana! I'm sorry I couldn't make it down to the farm. Sounds like I missed a good party :)

Wow! Diana has a lot more friends that I do. We had to cancel my last birthday party due to lack of interest. The farm was a bee hive of activity.

Great to see old friends and meet some new ones. Happy Birthday Diana!! Many, many more.

D'oh!!!:mad::(

Why did I not notice this thread sooner!? Stinkeroo! Well, next year...

Again, happiest of birthdays, young lady...:cheerswine:

(could just kick myself...)

Okay, Leslie and I are back in Chicago. We had a beautifyl night flight back up; we left Springfield, MO, right at sunset. It was beautiful! Came back direct at 9,500' and I shot the GPS-B into Clow. 3 hours from engine start to shutdown.

It's now officially Diana's B'Day, and may we be the first to wish her a Happy Birthday actually ON her 40th birthday! :) (Oops, I wasn't supposed to tell her age!)

Diana & Tom, THANKS for putting up with us! (And Tom, thanks for returning those chocks that someone creatively acquired! :))

Oh, total hours on the tach: 9.5. Hmmm... $169/hr.:eek::eek:

I just made it home--had a good time. Happy Birthday!

All I can say is Diana and Tom know how to throw a birthday party! It was just like a mini Gaston's, but the food was SOOOO MUCH better!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy birthday Diana and thanks for the great time, we had a blast.

Woohoo! There goes your economic stimulus package, stimulating the economy of AvGas!

Diana, I'm sorry Missa and I couldn't make it this year due to the family reunion (which was actually pretty fun, although I'm sure not as much fun as your party). We'll definitely shoot for next year, hopefully in something more interesting (and faster, and more expensive) than an Archer. ;)

Thanks to everyone who came and who helped. :blowingkisses: We had a great time with all of you.

I have a lot of pictures, but Tom is suggesting that we go clean up the hangar now. The morning after is not nearly as much fun.

There are lots of stories to tell. I feel kinda bad about blowing chairs and things around that time I had to stop for fuel. Barb said there were people in the chairs when they went flying. Oops. Sorry!:redface::redface::redface: But I don't know whether to believe her or not. :dunno:

Speaking of pictures, those of you who post unflattering pictures will be in DEEP doo-doo. (Dean!)

I have pictures of Chip reaching for food and Chip with food in his mouth, but I'll check with him about the other more flattering pictures of him. ;)

Here is Tim getting ready for his aerobatic flight. Can't remember if he was smiling after we landed. ;)

Lots more pictures coming up later.

I'm glad everyone arrived back home safely.

I love the photo of the "Birthday Party Overalls". How'd that pass the "dress test".

(I know that might be a "relative" inside joke, but please grant a little leeway on Diana's birthday.)

Happy birthday Diana!

hum, don't know which ones you thought were unflattering... but on one I hope you are checking out his parashoot rigging...

Thanks Jim. :)

Yep, I thought about asking him to wear regular clothes, but since he had on his best Big Mac's I figured I was pretty lucky to get that much. :D Today he said he forgot to wear his favorite blue t-shirt with the overalls. :D

:D :D :D Well, I always have to debate whether or not to reach down and tighten those straps for guys if they can't figure it out, if you know what I mean. ;)

More pictures from the Birthday fly-in/cook out at the farm

Here are pictures of the Trike that flew in. As he passed over us to enter the pattern he left a trail of smoke...it was really cool to look up and see that! Wish we had that on film. I loved how he tied his lawn chair to the frame. :)

Even more pictures

Here are some pictures from my iPhone. The first one is of some of the people singing Happy Birthday. I can't believe Tom asked people to sing. I didn't know what to do so I took a picture. There were about 46 people there on and off.

One picture is of what it looked like having breakfast from the deck on Sunday morning.

We don't have a picture of the Taylorcraft that flew in or of the Cheyenne making a low pass.

By the way...

As I was approaching SGF last night I heard the local Mickey D's Cheyenne announcing a low pass at 08M0.

Was that exciting?
