Took Dad and flew a XC out to Tullahoma, TN this afternoon, and went to the Beechcraft Heritage Museum. It was well worth the trip and we enjoyed it. 10$ for adults, 5$ for kids 12-17 and 11 and under are free. Many vintage Beechcrafts' there, including a nice section with bonanza's, baron's, a queen air, and even a starship that you can go in. If you are looking for a good "100$ hamburger" type trip or something fun to do with the family, this is recommended, and would go back again!

I enjoyed that museum. Definitely some rare and unique aircraft there. Friend of mine flew the former Navy T-34C in about a year ago for permanent display.

That brings back some memories. I spent the first five years of my life in Tullahoma, and still have some vivid memories of the airport. Sitting on a big booster cushion on the front seat of a J3 Cub flying with the door open and the window up, all of two years old at the time; first loop in the same Cub at three or four years old. Getting a ride in John Parrish's big red Staggerwing, couldn't see out, but I have a memory of a red velvety interior... having that same Staggerwing blowing dust in my eyes one time when it taxied past and therefore developing a child's irrational dislike of that plane; blamed the plane itself...
Sitting in the back seat of a straight tailed 182 with my sister as we flew to DFW. Driving to the airport past the old military barracks on a crisp Fall day and looking up to see a dust devil lifting a bunch of leaves up into the air in a perfect whirling circle and being excited to know that I would soon be up there with them. Carefully inspecting a PT-22 that was based at the airport and being fascinated by the hole in the back of the fuselage through which a rod could be slid to lift the tail. Looking to the left while in the front seat of the Cub as my Dad's friend formed up on us..... inverted.

The Tullahoma airport is where my father gave me the gift of the love of flight. Thanks for triggering those memories.

Brings back a bad memory for me... My prop woes started when I decided to start my annual a little early so I could finally go to the BeechTalk fly in there last year...

I soo want to go.... Still...

Good story, and you're welcome! I was impressed with THA as it was my first time flying in there. Friendly and helpful staff, nice airport and a very nice museum. Hope to be back again soon!

Hopefully you can make it up for the AOPA Fly-in in October!

A certain little whiskey distillery is there also.

I noticed that on the AOPA site. Thinking about it - might even talk my hangar neighbor into the trip...

Never made it to a "big fly-in" - mostly EAA hamburger runs. To be honest, I might check the area out first before committing to the AOPA fly-in. Let's just say I've had a scare or two on the hamburger runs. Knowing there will be a lot of aluminum in the air over the field on that day does make me a little cautious ...

You and me both, which is why I haven't committed to it yet. It sounds like it will be fun, but the traffic getting in and out of it makes me cautious and a little nervous too.

It is a very nice museum with some incredible aircraft and exhibits. If you get there in the relatively early morning, the light is shining in through the glass hangar door near the entrance, really putting whatever aircraft is parked there in a beautiful light.

Highly recommended.

Another nice museum in Tennessee is the warbird museum in Gatlinburg.

Winchester (KBGF) will be a designated overflow airport for this event, so if someone doesn't want to deal with all of the traffic, they are free to land here. From my understanding, there will be a shuttle that runs between the airports. This will be nice for anyone not wanting to deal with the issue of getting in our dealing with the mad scramble to get out as well. I'll try to post up more information as I get it. Just attended the kick-off meeting for it a week or so ago.

It's cheap, but even cheaper at THA itself.

Look again...we swap back and forth quite a bit depending on when the other gets fuel. As of right now, we're cheaper! ;)

When I heard the Caravan dropping skydivers over THA I thought it may be you

Used to be! Haven't done that with them since November now. I DID do a drop into a funeral of all places the other day though.

I was banned from the Beechcraft Heritage Museum.
