BBQ at RDU, the REAL thread ...

Bill!! Great - it'll be good to see ya again! :)

Danos - does "yeah" mean you're coming? :)

EVERYONE - it's on for November 3d - I have to conference room reserved at TAC Air, so we have a place to eat right there where ya park. I'll order and have the BBQ delivered around 12:30 p.m., so we can get things together and eat around 12:45 - 1pm.

If you're coming and you have NOT said so, PLEASE let me know so I can order enough food! Folks from the red board will be coming, as well, so we should have a good time! :)

Speaking of the red board.. I should probably renew my AOPA...

Anyhow, I'm bound to make it there somehow, probably via slow four wheeled transportation.

My goal is to take the ride with a DPE up in Choo Choo by early December. :)

Ben Carr? Good guy, straight shooter, did both of my rides with him. Let me know when you schedule your ride, and if I'm in town, we'll go to BBQ for something after you pass!

Who will be able to make it? I need a head count.

Tom, what is your drop dead day for food orders? The "Boss" and daughter may want to ride along weather depending...

At least tomorrow, Bill - Bullock's isn't open today, so I'll call 'em tomorrow. When do you need?

I'll see what the boss says tonight, then get back to you. If I order three, I'll pay for three, I guess I'll just eat lots...

Won't be able to make it. The wedding supper begins at 17:30 local time Saturday afternoon.

Just eat one of those extra meals on my behalf!:D

Wilco! Speaking of BBQ, have you ever been down to Big Bob Gobsons at
Decatur, AL? If not, we should do a run soon...

I've spent many an evening at Big Bob's when I called on a couple contacts in Decatur and Huntsville. A run there or Dreamland in Tuscaloosa is definatly in order!

Come on now!! There are people in Africa that are starving and would LOVE to have that BBQ dinner!!

I just happen to be one of them!!

What's the count looking like Tom? How many?
We're looking at about 17 or so, at this point! I'm ordering the food tomorrow (Wed) - I was going to do it today, but got stuck in waiting-for-the-cable-guy hell. :(

But I talked to the wife of the guy I ordered from last time (turned out he is a pilot! :)) and I can order tomorrow for Saturday. Hey, gives me an excuse to go there for lunch! :D

... now all I have to do is try and figure out where everyone's gonna fit ...

Looks like I may be picking up a rescued dog in Clayton NC for transport northeast. Count me in, probably with a helper.

Great, Ron! Yeah, you might not want to carry any leftovers in the plane with ya ... :)

We may have to eat in shifts!

I am 95% sure that I will be there. I am looking forward to meeting some of you. Thanks for arranging it, Tom.

At the risk of being morbid, they apparently ARE popular for fly-ins ...

Tom, where on the field is Tac Air? The APD shows two general aviation ramps, one on J at J2, and another on F at F4. Are the RDU charlie ATC guys decent to work with?

Bill, if my memory is correct, TAC is on the north side of the field. I flew in there about a 1.5 years ago and ATC was very cooperative.

That just means they were tolerant of the pilot flying an airplane originating from place where a football team is called the "Volunteers." :D

ATC and TAC Air were both great when I flew in. No problems, and they weren't irked at all with having to deal with a 172 even though they had 7X7s passing me.

It USED to be Southern Jet - it's on the SOUTH side of the field at J2, and it's the one closest to the GA hangars there at the departure end of 5R. :)

ATC at Raleigh is great - they've never even yelled at me, though lord knows they've had reason ...

Got it, thanks, Tom!

Darn it, I'd love to get some BBQ with y'all but, aging hipster that I am, I have tix to the Police concert in Atlantic City that evening. Spouse and I are making it a getaway-from-the-kids overnight trip. First arena concert in probably 20 yrs. Should be interesting.

Thanks for the clarification Tom. It's been awhile since I've been there.

Tom, and all, I dont really intend on confusing matters, however, where the FBO('s)
are,it is called the North Ramp (by ground control as well.) Technically, the ramp sits on the NW side of 23L/5R. It is not hard to find , landing 32(recommended if able ), taxi via Charlie, cross 23L/5R take a right on ALPHA, left J2 or J3 its straight ahead, cant miss it!

Landing 23L, set up for a short field landing , make the first (Alpha 8)(or second ,Alpha 7) turn off to the right, FBO's are right in front of you .

Thanks for the clarification, Skipp - I only said it was on the south side, cause someone thought it was on the OTHER side of the airport, maybe on taxiway F.

Anyway, the important question is are YOU gonna be there???? :)

And to confuse matters more, the APD shows the airport divided as east/west for ground and tower control purposes. :dunno:

Like I said, J2 or J3 will get ya to the ramp! You just tell ground and they'll take it from there! :D

It's only like 3 hours from RDU to ACY -- no problem making both the BBQ and the Police concert!

I've decided I'm going to split my driving, so I'll be going to FLO tomorrow night, and making the rest of the trip Saturday morning. Will be there!

Of course, if anyone would be passing through the FLO area, I wouldn't pass up a flight :D
