Drives me nuts when people ***** about "censorship" or "free speech" on internet forums...

Drives me nuts when people respond to things I didn't write. My criticisim is just the consequences of their policies.

My bad...it wasn't intended to be directed at you, more of a general note of frustration.

OK, I fixed it and put the statement that triggered my frustration in the "quote" box.

But - freedom of speech was in fact limited or restricted by BT. It was just done in a way that is suitable to the owner of the forum, and notwithstanding any constitutional rights. Which is why the OP, Bart, me, and a few others have taken our ball and played in another park. Who's loss is greater?

Your freedom of speech will be limited in my house, too, lest you be shown physically to the door. Beech talk is their house, p!ss 'em off at your own risk. Make me mad, I may not open the door before sending you through it.

For the uninformed above, the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is that government shall make no laws restricting the people's right to free speech. Says nothing about non-governmental groups (clubs, web forums, heads of households, homeowners, etc.) restricting speech in their domain.

Don't like it? Go somewhere else, or establish and run your own hangout.

Um, just said that. Not being in your house might just keep me up all night worrying. Big fan of castle doctrine. We took our ball and went somewhere else. Hey - didn't I just say that too? Why, yes I did.

Nah - I think I'll prolly sleep ok tonight after all.

Actually, the OP didn't 'take his ball', he was 'handed his ball' and told to go play somewhere else.
Probably no great loss for him considering that he has now moved on to a warbird and there is no warbird expertise whatsoever on BT  .

Come on Ben could get a T-34 and have a warbird and Bonanza all in one package.

Yeah, but they are 'all junk', have 'unresolved liens' and the bank wouldn't loan the full purchase price on them and 'waste his time' ;) .

Considering that banks don't loan full value on GA planes anymore, I wonder if he's considered going through a leasing company? :dunno:

those guys at beechtalk are obsessed with LOP. every other post seems to be about LOP or jpis "uh yeah, i run my 1960something baron with gamis at 40% power LOP and burn the same gas as a 182" i just find it funny.

I'm the poster boy for cheap flying, although I don't have a Baron, and I don't run it at 40%. But - I can get my fuel burn under 9GPH and still going plenty fast, certainly faster than a Tiger and a 182. Also, I can use mogas making the travel even cheaper.

Most Bonanza and Baron pilots run wide open and burn tons of gas. They bought a fast plane, and they fly it that way, which I think is why the LOP and economy threads get some traction. Of course, not being on BT, I could be wrong.

Hey, not me! 9-10gph. Mogas if I'm not too lazy to lug it to the grass strip. Then again, I don't even rate a letter on the model number :(

I get Ben's position but don't understand his reaction. I hope he does find what he is looking for..

Thanks Brian,

Like I said a white back most folks on BT were helpful but with the used car aircraft brokers and few sour grapes there paying for BT operating costs they banned me because I spoke truth about my buying experience of old Bonanzas that I researched. Banks will not loan more than what the aircraft value is worth from appraiser values, aircraft bluebook, vref, etc. With that said, anyone is free to pay more than what a depreciating asset is worth. It's called stupidity but people do it all the time overpaying for cars, boats and houses. Airplanes too! I'm just a bit more frugal with my cash than most people. You don't get rich by being an idiot.

everyone is obsessed with gallons per hour when the really economy comes from fuel burn per distance travel. unless of course the objective is to loiter and build time.

Nice to know what everyone is obsessed with. I just like low fuel burn, and fast travel, which is written the post you quoted. In the aviation vernacular this equates to efficient operation. I rarely loiter, and never build time.

Ben I see you are flying out of Reid Hillview as am I. I followed some of your adventures on BT, but I can't recall posting or commenting on any of it.

Of course there are some people that have become popular of famous in the BT world that may or may not carry over to life. Who cares, it's a forum and entertainment. I'm sorry you were banned because it is a valuable place to learn things that in reality allow you to operate your plane more efficiently such as LOP which is being scoffed at here in this thread. The benefits are great and go beyond the savings in flight. In real numbers that can be duplicated again and on my flights I loose about 4-6 knots of TAS in return for about 2.5 gph in savings. This means that for every hour it takes about two minutes longer to get somewhere and will save about $15. Beyond the savings the plugs are always clean without lead balls when pulled during maintenance, I have cleaner oil, valves, and the CHT's run dramatically cooler which means engine longevity. It's a good thing and worth reading everything you can to get confident as well as set up to fly LOP. Likely rentals will not be set up for operating LOP so I can see how this could fall on deaf ears until the decision is made to be airplane poor.

Brokers aren't the enemy although I can see it being frustrating to pick up the very best deal via a broker. There is a basic truth that plays out everyday in sales and it doesn't even have to be relating to airplanes. An item is worth what somebody will pay for it. There is a price point where everything sells, and when you reach it you will make a deal. Both sides have to get there though.

Suggestion... There is a 65 260 Comanche parked at Tradewinds with a for sale banner on the nose. It looks like a heck of a nice airplane. Buy it, join us locals on fly outs and trips. Smile, be happy, because this hobby costs to much financially, and the sacrifices we make, as well as our families do by default for us to be able to do it, well it would just be a shame if it makes us miserable to boot.

Lastly there are a couple of P35's that are rentals at Reid. Why don't you look into getting some time in one or both and see if you like the type. You'll be getting a checkout at the same time which is a win win. I love my Bonanza, but I am partial to Comanches, 182's, and would give my left arm for a Carbon Cub. It's all good. Pick something and pull the trigger. Then begin paying for hangar or tie down, insurance, annuals, transponder certs, engine overhaul account, subscriptions, fees for medicals, over priced gas, use tax, and for any upgrades that you have to have. Then if there is anything left fly the thing once in a while. The extra change you might give to a broker is pretty meaningless in the big picture. After looking at it through the eyes of having paid for all of this for over a decade now, you are in for such a rude awakening when you finally purchase that it's going to come as a shock. It is however worth it IMO.

Good luck!

If you are frugal with your cash, don't go near aircraft ownership. You will either always be unhappy with the continuous hemorrhage of cash, or it will kill you for not parting with it. Join a non equity club, it's the best way to conserve cash in aviation.

After 6 months of plane ownership all i can sayy is Hennig is dead on. Airplanes cost a ton. But its so worth it.

Banks will not lend above those values for the same reason they won't loan full value on a house, they don't trust their own market since they know if they do like in 2005-2007 they will end up owning a bunch of $75,000 152s that are worth $20,000 next time they decide to collapse the market.

Heck, skip the license, do a discovery flight whenever you feeling like flying...or buy an ultralight.
Getting a PP cert, a 152, and 5 years of expenses, you are easily over $50K, a nicer 172...$100K.

If you are frugal and still want to experience the joy of just flying, the Ultralights are most definitely your prime solution. You can even travel with them for little cost in cash, but you do trade your time for money. There are those that consider flying time is not subtracted from your life anyway.;)

If you travel with a ground crew, they will usually beat you to the destination and have everything set up for you before you get there.

Thanks Bryan,

Good advice. I fly out of RHV and in a club right now. Saw the nice Commanche yesterday. Problem with renting is that every time there is nice weather the planes already booked. See this with every place in Bay Area. I want the option to go fly at last minute on nice days. I'm an ABS member so BT not even required when I have tech question on Bonanzas. That's the difference between a free site and paid service. Plus nobody hurls cheap insults at me either. Those BT guys have too many sticks shoved way too far up their arses. They really need to take a serious chill pill. It's actually comical as I've never been banned from a website forum before.

Haven't been here in a while. Hard to believe someone is still using one pilot forum to diss another.

Where is that "beat a dead horse" emotion?? :)

Any 1 know if the OP pulled the trigger on something yet or is he still day dreaming?

Last talked about flying yaks...
no, he is now going to buy a yak, and a travelling airplane, and an airpark home, all in one fell swoop. This the same guy who couldn't buy a middling bonanza because the bank wouldn't loan him 100% of the purchase price. Yet he readily accepted demo rides from folks on beechtalk on the pretense he was a potential customer.

Ben was on the red board 2 days ago wanting to buy a used 430W or 530W.
Probably for his CirrusMooneyBeechYak.

Yeah, about that. You seem to have a history of telling others (CFIs, flying club owner, DPE) how to do their job. As a piece of unsolicited advice, I suggest you listen if one of the ABS technical advisors tells you something and refrain from telling him how to do it better. If you dont, he may grow a bit tired of you and stop taking your calls.

How precious. Just read the language you use to complain about other people who were supposedly impolite to you.
