On my wife's computer, AVG reported that it had found a virus on opening 5 specific files. I told it to fix the problem. It reported success with a couple of the files but not with the others. I then did a complete scan with AVG including "root kit" and no virus was found. I did the same same with Kaspersky on line and again no virus found. I contacted AVG to ask " Well, do we have a virus or not?" They asked for some diagnostic data which I provided on July 30. Today is Aug. 10 and still not even an acknowledgement that they have received the data I sent. Just resent the data email along with an expression of my displeasure. The virus was reported as VBS/ Small. The files were Dell support files. AVG was very interested in selling their premium service but first I just wanted to know if the computer has a virus or not as there is conflicting information. I think I'll be looking to find a different virus protection provider.

Kinda the fox watching the hen-house with SmallLimp's tools... Oops, MicroSoft... Same thing... But agreed. It's free and it usually works.

5th of September, just received a response to the diagnostic data that I sent on 30 July. Response was "No problem seen - send more data." I have, so I guess I can expect a response to that about mid October.
No point in not using the AVG licenses that I have paid for but when they expire, they wont be renewed. I did switch the affected computer to the Microsoft free program as one poster suggested.

Others suggested I switch to MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) and I did a few weeks ago. Problem free. (Only time can tell if it is working but I am optimistic.) I like the fact that it works quietly. Avast was getting a bit too annoying.
