Had an EA100 die on me. Had previously been having issues with the connection between the Aspen MFD and the EA100- the AHRS light would stay on but when we were trying to access the config program (for some gain tweaks) it had a hard time getting connected. EA100 finally went completely dead. OK maybe that was the issue. Replaced the EA100 with new and also a new blue Aspen ethernet cable and tested all connections. 1st 2 flights worked great- connected before the PFD/MFD even finished boot up checks. But on a test flight later in the afternoon same day wouldn't connect. Tried 5 times. Finally on 5th try after waiting 5-6min it connected. Was able to barely access config program (kept dropping and re-acquiring every 20-30sec). Took another 5min to link up but stayed up long enough to do a 30min test flight. Then on taxi to the hangar AHRS light started going off and reacquiring every 30 sec or so. Went back out today- cold plane, cold hangar. Didn't start the engines but Aspen and EA100 linked up perfectly in less than 30sec 4 times in a row. EA100 is mounted on top of a KFC 150 computer but all of the units have ducting from an avionics cooling fan. We are in contact with Aspen to determine next steps. But even under warranty replacing a bad EA100 everytime it dies is a hassle as I have to arrange transportation to drop the plane off. Is this just a bad EA100? Or is there a design problem? Have seen other posts claiming the 24V to 12V converter sits on top of some very cheap relays in the EA100 and that may be to blame. That would explain why it dies when the avionics are hot but has been pretty cold here lately, definitely not the 100deg days we have during summer.
(to those that say replace with a Garmin- estimates are $70-80k for everything I would need since its a Seneca; would prefer getting current setup to work)

I had an Aspen with EA-100. Had the AHRS light come on and no coupling with autopilot. I contacted my avionics shop (already in the planning and waiting for shop slot for major upgrade). They said they see a lot of problems with EA-100s. Luckily, since I was just a couple months out, they lent me one to use until my panel upgrade.

Makes me glad I did not opt to go to a multi panel Aspen.
