Notice to users of the AOPA Web Boards

We would like to thank all of you who provided valuable comments to our recent Web Board survey. You have made it clear that the boards are of value to you and, with improvements, could be of value to a far greater number of members.

As a result we will be adding new hardware and software that will improve the capabilities of the site. To allow us to make the changes we will be temporarily closing the site. We anticipate that the site will be down for 4 to 6 weeks. To allow you time to close out of any strings you may be involved with, the site will remain operational in its current form until 5pm EST Monday April 11, 2005

Yeah, not a good deal maybe for here, might end up with 952 conservative political posts here per day.:no:

And what's wrong with conservative posts as long as liberal ones are allowed too? Its clear to me Henning, that its censorship you want, not balance. What happened to tolerance as long as its civil?

Well, political posts ARE allowed here. Some tools to remember, though:

1. Bad Post submission for any violations of Rules of Conduct. Click the link, add your reasoning behind the 'bad post' submission and we will review it. We do have procedures in place to deal with it and we're fairly fast on reaction time.

2. Ignore users. Not just 'ignore what they're posting' but you can literally ignore the user altogether. Their posts will not show up in your views.

A lot of us (me included) migrated here for a more civilized environment. I think we've done a good job of keeping it that way so far. With your help, we can continue it.

Besides, I distinctly remember a few of the more prevalent posters over there ridiculing our approach here at PoA. That would be rather hypocritical of them to show up now, don't you think? ;)

Brian,

I post a lot more here than I did there just because of the environment.

So far this has been a great place.

Well, actually, I don't particularly want them at all regardless their bias and typically stay uninvolved. However, whenever a balancing counterpoint is brought up on AOPA's board there is typically a harangue shelled out. My primary objection is the clutter on the board. I really could care less what political/religious bias anyone has, everyone is entitled to their's.

I think you mean oppressed. Repressed is something you do to yourself, like blocking out memories.

it's a Monty Python quote. I use it all the time.

There are some who would say that this is not necessarily a bad thing in your case. ;)

Well, Who made you king? You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you! :)

OMG!!!!
Consult the Holy Book of Armaments!!!!!!!!!
I'll see your Monty Python..........
And raise you one skit!

LAUNCELOT: We have the Holy Hand Grenade.
ARTHUR: Yes, of course! The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! 'Tis one of the sacred relics Brother Maynard carries with him. Brother Maynard! Bring up the Holy Hand Grenade!
MONKS: [chanting] Pie Iesu domine, dona eis requiem.
21_grena.jpg
Pie Iesu domine, dona eis requiem. Pie Iesu domine, dona eis requiem. Pie Iesu domine, dona eis requiem.
ARTHUR: How does it, um-- how does it work?
LAUNCELOT: I know not, my liege.
ARTHUR: Consult the Book of Armaments!
BROTHER MAYNARD: Armaments, chapter two, verses nine to twenty-one. SECOND BROTHER: And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that, with it, Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits in Thy mercy.
'
21_book.jpg

And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and large chu--
MAYNARD: Skip a bit, Brother.

SECOND BROTHER: And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.' MAYNARD: Amen.
KNIGHTS: Amen.
ARTHUR: Right!

I would be worried that he might never get the thing breathing again.

This is the kind of leadership a good chat-place needs. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it and I (among others I'm sure) offer our thanks.

I run a chatlist (email) and it feels real bad to boot someone... for about a day, then you think, 'why did I wait so long?', this feels great!

Bring me a Shrubbery!!! My Kingdom for a Shrubbery!!!!

I may have deleted it now, but I used to have the "Death by Boobies" skit from Meaning of Life in an MPEG-file.

All of us "moderator" types will be active during this time. I have had the luxury of sitting back while Brian and Chuck do most of the work. But there are FIVE of us.

Everyone remember, NO PERSONAL STUFF. NO Namecalling. Everything you need to learn about life you learned in Kindergarden....

4-6 weeks? Did SAP get into the webboard software market and sell a copy to Robert?

I rather strongly suspect AOPA is hoping to break up the current communities on their webboard and bring in a whole new crowd. Just my WAG, though.

Chuck, Brian. Bruce, and I hope I can learn the other two peoples name soon.

I just say thank you for making this a safe place for all to enjoy. I feel that this forum can be a place where people who love aviation and flying can come and learn from one another.

From one who has beennot posting a lot for this is a new adventure that takes time to get comfortable.

I say thank you again.

Hehehe....

It'll take that long to install all the MS patches to Server and get the system stable....

I think since Robert & his team do that on a "time available" basis, it takes longer....

"Moderating" would be a lot more effective if you could shoot a lightning bolt out of peoples monitors....:zap!: :dance: :zap!: :zap!: :zap!: :cool:

And for the record, here's that list:

===============================
All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sand pile at school.

These are the things I learned:

* Share everything.
* Play fair.
* Don't hit people.
* Put things back where you found them.
* Clean up your own mess.
* Don't take things that aren't yours.
* Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
* Wash your hands before you eat.
* Flush.
* Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
* Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
* Take a nap every afternoon.
* When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
* Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
* Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed inthe Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we.
* And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.

Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess.

And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out in the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

Play Fair. Be Nice. And life is good.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! an SAP conversion would 4-6 YEARS! SAP! We're not done until you're out of money!!! :dance: :rofl:

To PoA Management, I offer the same thing I did to Robert Fischer of AOPA, any help I can. If you would like another monitor, let me know. I'm sure I am here as often as most.
I'd like the AOPA board to be as good as it was; without all the backbiting, namecalling and venomous rancor that went on there at times. But if that can't be, whatever it takes to make this works is what it takes.
Long live AOPA Webboard, long live PoA!

I have to admit that I'm rather curious about Robert's "Rules of Conduct" statement in the Webboard Users portion of that multi-forum thread. Looks like some rules may go into effect over there....

Many boards have taken care of this problem by creating a new forum for political discussions. The rule is to keep all the political stuff there, so that we can choose to take a look if it interests us. Keeps it out of everything else too.

Has anyone here archived/saved any of the useful threads over there? weather, training, etc etc.
