Anybody know if Garmin pilot has this feature?

Was flying with someone using Foreflight the other day and when they turned final foreflight annunciated "Final 23" in big letters center screen.

I find that to be a very nice feature, but it doesn't look like GP has it yet. Am I missing the setting hidden somewhere? Generally they copy each other pretty well on features, maybe GP is behind on this one.
 
I haven't seen that in GP, though it's possible it's something you have to turn on. I suspect it doesn't though. Is the idea to help keep you from lining up with the wrong runway?

Yeah, just another confirmation that you're doing what you think you'e doing.
 
The Garmin app does have the extended runway final depicted, then you see yourself flying. I think most flt apps & GPS’s show that. The voice part, not as sure about.
 
Personal if I turned to final, I’ll be busy looking out the window rather than at an iPad, but that’s just me
It's also audio.
 
Of course one doesn’t want to stare at an Ipad screen in the pattern. When a number of miles out, an extended final can help the S.A..

Isn’t that what those big numbers of the end of the runway are for?
 
When you on final you should know which runway your about to land on :confused:

I see an opportunity for this to cause confusion. What happens when tower tells you direct to the numbers at an angle and there happens to be another runway at that angle?

The same thing that would happen if you look at the numbers painted on the other runway?

Some of the responses are kind of amusing. Like it’s a bad thing to have your iPad tell you when you’re on final for a runway. Nobody ever lands on the wrong runway......
 
My iPad is safely stowed long before that point. I hate cockpit clutter.

It can still give you an audible annunciation even when stowed.
 
Funny thing is those numbers also appear on the compass when you are on final 2 miles out.
And so there is no need for anyone to wish to use a system they like better then. Why do we even have a GPS when a compass and a watch can do all we need?

Then why do so many planes (ok, maybe not "so many" but some) airplanes land on the wrong runway.
When a mistake using the system occurs more often than is should, then it is usually the system that needs fixing.
 
It probably would have sounded stupid to me too if I hadn't been in the cockpit with an iPad mounted in the console and while I'm on final I see a big blinking message telling me what runway I'm lined up on. It's the only time I even looked at the iPad the entire flight, but I found value in the information it provided me. Yes, I was already looking at the numbers on the pavement, but I can see how in other circumstances it might help stop me from doing something stupid some day.

I agree with all of that, but you do realize that there are some people on this board that NEVER do anything stupid. And if you don't do things the way they like, then YOU are stupid.
(yeah, someone peed in my Cheerios this morning).
 
I love ForeFlight on my iPad. Absolutely a great tool. I love the extended centerline. I like how it tells me when I’m about to enter a runway on the ground. I like how the AWOS frequency message pops up when I’m gettin close to the airport (though I typically already have it dialed up). I love how the taxiway diagram pops up after landing. But for me this runway final message is a bit superfluous. However, I can ignore it so if it helps someone else with their situational awards, who am I to complain?

Pretty sure the numbers painted on the runway are correct 100% of the time.

I turn the tablet off when I have the field in sight and pull the prop to high RPMs. That said, I saw the extended centerline on some of the panel navigators. IIRC Aspen does that.

My first airplane cruised at 68 knots. I assure you those numbers didn't appear on the compass any time there was a crosswind.

Interesting. All the planes I fly pulling gives me low RPMs and pushing gives me high RPMs.

But I usually wait until the prop governor comes off the stops before I push in the blue knob for the sake of being noise-friendly to the people on the ground.
