Angry Neighbors (as usual)

That argument is absurd. The fact that they are lumping the Growler in with all F/A-18 variants, and claiming a higher accident rate in raw numbers without looking at number of planes, sorties, hours or type of mission is asinine. There were about 170 EA-6B built total, and about 2100 F/A-18 of various types built, not to mention the wide variety of missions including carrier ops, attack roles, interdiction, etc that can increase the accident rates. I guess it's still true that there are lies, damned lies and statistics.

EA-6B #170
EA-18G #117
F/A-18E/F #500
F/A-18A/B/C/D #1480

I just fail to see how people make these claims that the noise especially round small airports is that bad. My house is about 2 miles form the small airport that I fly out of. My house is somewhat in the flight pattern and GA planes are regularly about 1000 feet over my house. They are just not that noisy, provided they are more then 200 or 300 feet away.. Yes I can hear them, when I am outside, no they no not interrupt my conversations, and usually when I hear them I need to scan the sky a bit before I even can find them. Heck, McGuire is about 15 miles from me, so will get really big stuff overhead at times, but again I have never been unable to hod a conversation, and once inside, all the planes are difficult to hear.

People just like to hate on planes. Lawnmowers, weedwackers, a car speeding down the street, are much more of a noise issue. And personally that stuff is not an issue either. I have spent nights in NYC, and have no idea how people get used to the constant street noise, but yet people get upset by planes. I hate all of this stuff, it make no sense to me.

At one point I lived about a mile north of the DER of KLAX 24R. I had relatives in Inglewood, directly under the extended centerline of the same runway. I learned to swim as a kid outdoors right under short final. I had a number of lunches with the grandparents atop May Co., also right under short final.

I find it hard to notice a 747 at 10,000 when I've heard so many at less than 1000. The occasional go-around really got your attention.

As for spam cans? Well, I also lived close to KTOA for a number of years, and never really noticed.
