Airplane Repo The TV Series

I live in NE Texas. Can't think of a flight school with 4 C172's.

Anybody recognize that airport?

They don't always use the "correct" airport and it looked like the name of the flight school was changed to protect the guilty. Hard to tell.

But wasn't it nice of them to bring the boat trailer back. Evidently that wasn't on the repo list.

Yeah, so about those "flight school" airplanes they "repossessed" in this week's episode...

Image 1
Picture of one of the "repossessed" airplanes in this week's episode as the repo team departs the flight school's airport. The plane was supposedly used for a flight school and had extensive and up-to date log records including a recent annual.

Image 2
What appears to be the exact same airplane from Kevin's YouTube channel where he's doing a video about how he bought it after it was sitting around for years somewhere in Florida and is restoring the plane for his fleet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7D-aNOnHd4Q

In the TV footage the tail number is blurred out but you can still make out the tail of the Q, which exactly matches the tail number in the YouTube video as does the paint scheme.

From his YouTube channel Kevin actually seems like a really great guy... but as for the TV show, well you can draw your own conclusions.

It has airplanes therefore I watch it.

Yeah it's a TV show. We get that. Yeah it is mildly entertaining in that it has airplanes. We get that too. I think that what bothers some on here the most is that it appears to be pure fiction and full of inaccuracies yet they pedal it as reality. Why not just make a fictional TV show about the business with some decent actors and package it as such?

I've met Danny Thompson and his "boss" Ken Cage, a couple of nice enough guys who describe themselves as "actors" and no doubt making a few dollars out of the show while able.

You really need to follow their Facebook page to see how the "non aviation" public believes everything they see in the show is real, some guy commented the other day, "so glad you are okay Danny after being confronted by the bad guys !" .....

I think the writers/producers are making this show more for people who think Professional Wrestling is real. If you're intelligent enough to realize there is nothing 'Real' about the show then you're not their target market.

Luckily there are enough people to support the ad sales to keep these shows on the air. Nothing against the people in the show either, they get to be on TV, get compensation of some kind and probably all have a love of aviation.

I'm not sure an Aviation themed 'Reno 911' would do well.

I do understand all of your points but I have never understood how even the person with complete aviation ignorance would not see through it. All of the breaking and entering, physical intimidation, etc. just screams BS. People must know that isn't legal. Plus the idea that these supposedly stealthy operations drag along a camera and lighting crew with them is beyond belief. Might as well announce your presence. So I have a hard time believing that anybody actually believes any of it to be true or realistic. And so why pedal it as such?

Oh, there are still people who believe pro wresting is real? Seriously?

There are a lot of ignorant people in the world. Ignorant people also multiply faster than intelligent people. Therefore your chances of encountering stupidity raises each year. It's science my friend!

Because it would cost more money :) and be not popular. The "reality" of it is what sells it to the average person. It's really the same for all other "reality" shows especially on Discovery(which at this point is everything on Discovery)

The Discovery Channel used to be a respectable network that showed real high quality, almost PBS-like, programming that offered real educational value.

Then they started chasing more populist stuff... still was decently educational.

Then they kicked up with actual "reality programs" that clearly had a lot of editing (e.g., Gold Rush) but were mostly rooted in reality.

Now they've just completely lost the plot and have gone full steam ahead into these 'reality' programs that are mostly just made up staged events (Amish Mafia, Moonshiners, Airplane Repo). I don't have a problem with fiction, but at least call it fiction. This whole pretending to be a documentary like COPS when it's all just made up to look like one is really just silly.

I suppose it's not all that unlike the Weather channel which used to be a respectable place for really great weather info... now weather.com is mostly filled with click-bait "SHOCKING CELEBRITY VIDEO, YOU WONT BELIEVE WHAT THIS HAPPENS NEXT!!!!".

Sigh.

At some point true "reality" will set in that the people that watch these shows or click on the click-bait aren't worth paying a lot of $$$ for to go after and the real people worth advertising too have gone elsewhere. Never mind that for virtually all the TV many watch now it's on their DVR so they essentially never see any of the commercials that people paid to put against those shows!

Until advertisers and executives realize that we'll have to keep seeing all this silliness. :goofy:

That makes people who are intelligent enough to do that not worth catering to.

Well, this week they said a C172 can reach 140mph instead of 180mph like last week.

That's progress.

Discovery channel used to be one of my favorite. I've learned quite a lot about many subjects on it over the years. Now, it's impossible to trust anything they say. Even if it appears to be a documentary.

For most people, if they are unfamiliar with the subject matter of the show, they more or less accept it as accurate and will enjoy it if it's entertaining. I just can't watch something where every 2 min I feel like yelling out BS.

Wait a minute! Are you guys telling me that this isn't a documentary on how to "swipe airplanes for a livin'"? I was seriously contemplating a career change! You have dashed all my hopes. :D

They "repossessed" a DC-3 from a business down here. Of course you're not going to let just anyone fly your DC-3, so they had to get checked out before hand with the same guys who fly it every other day...

O.k. we know it's scripted and all made up. I'll watch it anyway.

Because it has planes in it. :D

It's a good thing Mike Kennedy is better at stealing planes than he is at keeping his reptiles safely caged. A 6' King Cobra escaped several days ago from his compound in Central Florida and as of yet has not been seen or captured. Not the first time this has happened to him, either.

Wow!!!:yikes: I saw the news article but didn't put two and two together...:mad2: That's insane... There are some animals that just shouldn't be allowed in private hands... The King Cobra should be high on that list...

Wow! I saw that on the news too, but didn't know it was Mike Kennedy's.

Why would you keep a king cobra in your house? How does one even get a permit for that?

I saw the news blurb too....

His neighbors are " less then happy" with him...:mad2::mad2::mad:

He has a whole compound full of exotics. He rehabs them or so he says. Doubt if any go anywhere. He is licensed for it but with all the mishaps may lose that license. Would make his neighbors happy for sure.

Don't give them ideas. The next episode will have Mike's king cobra crawling out from under the panel just after rotation.

He'll have to wrangle it in one hand while flying the plane through a thunderstorm using a Garmin Nuvi GPS to navigate to an "unspecified", highly secure, executive airport where 10 cop cars are waiting for him with guns drawn... :)

Yes there are people that believe in wrestling.....and they generally believe reality tv is real. Like the other poster said. If you can tell its not real then it wasn't made for you.

I think you've encapsulated the entire series in one sentence. Well done, sir!

Snakes on a Repo Plane. Now, that would be a great reality TV show!!!

:goofy:

Already did it. Had an episode where Mike was going after a plane that turned out to be used for smuggling exotics. In fact, if memory serves me correct (which doesn't happen often) think there was a King Cobra among them. Maybe, just maybe, this is the same Cobra and he escaped so he could get more TV time. Or maybe he just likes to fly and is searching for the airport! Oh, the scripts are endless:yes:

Nah, I forgot the part where the bank was waiting at the destination to give him a "$200k payday" for delivering the "exclusive luxury executive transport aircraft".... a Cherokee 140.

Oh come on! No self respecting snake would be caught dead flying on a Cherokee 140.

just kidding Piper fans, just kidding.

Awesome episode tonight. Debtor shot holes in the tail of a cessna and that caused engine troubles. Most likely a fuel supply issue. It would have been more interesting and believable if he lost elevator input.
