Going to be there for a few days next week and looking to rent for a day to fly over to California and back. Looking for a newer 182 preferably with the g1000. Anyone have any good leads?

Westair flight school at VGT, don't know what theyve got. You'll have to go thru a checkout with a CFI before you can rent. The website stinks, none of the links work. http://www.westairaviation.com/

Airport tenant website lists more flight schools
http://www.vgt.aero/06-TenantDirectory.aspx

At Henderson, HND, there's a couple flight schools
http://www.airnav.com/airport/khnd

Best bet is to call around and see what's available and what the ground rules are.

Thanks. I can't seem to locate what I am looking for.

West Air's website works fine for me. They do have a T-41B but I'm pretty certain it's not G1000 equipped.

I was there 2 weeks ago and rented a 172 but it was just a local flight from VGT in and around the city.

Um, no, a plane from the 1960's is probably not G1000 equipped.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I believe I rented a 200hp LyCon converted C-172 from WestAir at VGT back in '01 (sorry not more recent data point) - 3 slam bangs and I was released to go fly. Easygoing folks (at least back then).

Get familiar with the airspace and landmarks, the controllers are amazing but if you head north of town you will be with Nellis coming back and they can get busy with Mil traffic.

West Air T-41B has a new GTN750. C-182 climb performance but 125KTAS.
They have a C-182RG with a good package but not G1000.
They have a C-172R with I think a G430. Most of their older 172s have Garmin.

Elite Aviation used to have G1000 Cessnas, but they've lost some aircraft off the rental line. Not sure what they have right now.

Monarch Sky at Henderson has a lot of aircraft, hard to keep up with what they have.

I unfortunately do not have my complex so the RG is out. I need to haul 3 other people with me so a 172 wont work well or the option of bringing along a CFI. I have to take a day trip over to California and thought it would be fun to fly myself if I could find the right setup rather than book tickets on an airline.

I've rented from Westair a few times. Very good operation. I had the same CFI on two different checkouts a few years apart - John Romero, who's still listed on their page of instructors. Just be sure to have all your credentials lined up, including your last flight review endorsement.

I thought for sure they had a G1000 last time I was there about 2 years ago. They also had an Arrow that I rented, but that's not listed now either. The 172 with a 530 might work for you unless you are dead set on a G1000. At $95/hour, it's not a bad rate. A G1000 equipped plane will cost at least 50% more than that. Probably even higher, yet you won't gain any speed/performance improvement.

I'm pretty sure it's more than 95/hour... The N model I rented was 130 an hour wet.

I do know that of the base 172s, two have 430s and ther other has a KLN89, so they have something.

The T-41B will haul what you need, providing they are not all 200# each.
10-11gph so you can plan fuel accordingly. Need the HP endorsement, it's an IO-360 @210HP.

The T-41B has a GTN750. N98189, 23 gallon usable per side plus a 17gal fuselage tank. But with 4 up I'd pass on extra 17 gallons. Flight plan 125KTS at about 10gph and 10K MSL.

Interesting.. Guess I just assumed since it was a 172, that it would not fit the mission. I have my HP and currently own/fly a 182.

I consider it a baby 182.
Empty wt 1663#
Max GW, 2500#
35 gal fuel = 195# apx 2/3 tanks
Leaves some room to fill the seats.

If you fly a C-182 the T-41B is about the same, it has high lift wing with stall fence STOL kit, so you got to get it slow and nose high on landing.

Newest entry in the "Oldest Necro-post Contest"

April of 2014 for the OP... Oct 2017 for the revival! I sure hope OP put his trip off for 3 1/2 years.

So, @EmpriseAir , you specifically joined POA yesterday just to post to a 3 1/2 year old thread (therefore intentionally overriding the "old post" warning) where the OP's need to rent a plane is certainly no longer relevant, posted an advertisement outside of the classifieds section, and didn't include a price as required in the Rules of Conduct?

Post reported for review.

@RussR - I'm usually the harsh one :)

I commented on the necro-ness of the post and sent him a PM about necro-posting and that his post would get more sugar in the Classifieds. And while I can't share the content of a PM since that too is against the RoC I can summarize it as cordial and informative.

Wow, you get a gold star today Russy, good job! Now it’s time for recess, be a good boy and go outside and play!

Incredible third post, you're off to a good start.

Trying to be cordial and informative, as @Ravioli suggests, you should be aware that, from the same Rules of Conduct:
  • Personal attacks are prohibited. This specifically means any text/post that is blatantly attacking another person, on or off the forum, especially in a personal way. Make your point without calling names or casting aspersions on others.
I was hoping instead that you'd want prove you weren't just spamming the board - for instance, by claiming "new guy" ignorance and then participating in other threads and discussions, instead of just advertising your business.
