I flew with my friend Jared from Ranger Airfield. He is raffling off his Cessna 150 to raise money to refurbish the field, including building a new hangar. This is the 3rd oldest field in Texas, and even Amelia Earhart landed there in 1931.

Every new shoot you post gets better.

I really like the two close-ups in this shoot. Are you finding people more comfortable with formation flying that are willing to get closer, or are you using a longer lens for these?

I don’t see how Alabama has any say about a raffle being held in another state regardless of the fact you live in AL.

Then again, listening to your governor talk on the news.... sheesh!

I know. Our politicians leave a lot to be desired. They want that seat so they're willing to sell out for it. I ain't voting for him though. May not even vote.
 
Thank you all for you kind words. I enjoy taking the photos. I know I have a certain style, hopefully if you fly with me, you like my style. Apparently it's not good enough for this guy, who I've known for years. He says they look muddy and he wants my raw files so he can edit them.

We flew around sunrise and got warm colors, which is what most people want. At this point, I really don't give a **** if he sells all of the tickets on this plane or not.

Thank you, the support I get here means a lot! I'm so mad right now I can't even think straight. I'll never claim I'm the best photographer out there, but I mostly do it for fun and try to help people out. The EAA invited me out to Oshkosh because they like my work. General Aviation News just gave me the cover. Nobody has ever asked me to change a photo. I'm probably about half hurt, half ****ed at this point!
 
Don't blame you. Maybe he's trying to get them free or something. I'd tell him to someone else.

I gave them to him for free! I've known him a long time and support his events! Oh well, I'll get over it.

Thank you. In this case, I know he's good at formation and flies a lot, so I let him tuck in close. I almost always shoot with my 70-200 lens, so he was pretty close!
 
Its a beautiful plane but that spinner drives me crazy.

Yeah, when I photograph planes, I usually ask them if they can change things about their planes I don't like! It's amazing how many just won't do it!

Beautiful pics. I flew my friends straight tailed 150 and it was a great flying bird. I just received my paper copy of trade a plane and honestly didn't really pay attention to the cover.. Need to check it out when I get home.

Thanks! I've never flown one. I think they look great when converted to a tailwheel plane. We always called them C140Bs!

That's not far off from what happened. Cessna aerodynamicist and test pilot Bill Thompson wrote,

[The C-150's] large slotted flaps had been developed for a projected C-140B that never reached production. The C-140B's elliptically-shaped horizontal tail was inadequate for handling the large pitching moments caused by the 40˚ flap setting, and, therefore, the project had been canceled before C-140A production was terminated.

I got my commercial, instrument and CFI in a square-tail '65 C-150E -- as well as the toughest test of all, the first date with the young lady who would become my wife. :D

The 150E, with its square tail, rear window and manual flaps, was more pleasant to fly than the newer, heavier swept-tail versions.

Thanks Jeff. I knew some of the history, but not all of it. I know if you look at the early 150s, they were the leftover 140 fuselages and even have the original doors that were angled up, which worked well on the 140s!

One of the things I really like about your photos is how crisp and clean they are. Some folks have no taste.
