This afternoon I was heading into downtown on I24W. Riding in the right center lane doing abt 70, I see a guy in a new Big Money Wasted 320i in my rear view mirror hauling tail, weaving in between the other drivers. I see him approaching me from the right rear and he merged into my lane nearly taking my fender with him. He sped up and then cut across 2 lanes of traffic infront of two semi's and got right up on the tail of a guy in the far left lane and from my view point it didn't look like he was much more than two feet off the bumper of the guy infront of him. A quick brake check and he would've been eating fiberglass. I merged onto 27 at the split which has a construction zone and traffic was at a standstill. The guy he was tailgating merged into the center lane and just as he did, the BMW slammed on his brakes and had to come to a halt due to a wall of traffic infront of him.

Game over! :D

I've been seeing more and more of this lately. People seem to be getting more agressive and daring on the roads than I ever remember. I certainly feel safer in the air, than behind the wheel amongst these idiots on the road.

That's why I try to use back roads as much as possible. More relaxing and some cool things to see and visit in small towns. Just today we stopped at a restaurant called "It Don't Matter" and had some of the best fried ass chicken I've ever had, moist and tender, the chicken I mean. Traffic was very light and I was able to keep her at 100 for most of the way. Nah, 10 over is my limit.

I've noticed it's Beamers and big SUVs. Crazy.

I just wish the pedestrians would put away the cell phones when walking in parking lots.
 
Just another ****ole in a beemer. Around here I see them in Lexus, too, sometimes a Kia! I'm like, "where's the f***ing fire?"
 
We've all been that guy once or twice. You don't know what's happening in his life that made him be in such a hurry. I usually just let them by. Life's too short for me to be upset about things that don't matter and that I can't control.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt too. It puts less frowns on my ever-wrinkling face. I do my best to stay out of the way of anybody catching up to me, I assume medical/some kind of emergency, or they just have a better reason than me to go faster than I care to go.

You can't discuss this here... every time a driving thread comes up, it becomes obvious that the VAST majority here, can't even be bothered to drive the speed limit.

Yeah, I hate that. I usually try to not make eye contact when I see you catching me at the light. I also try to appear completely relaxed, just chillin. I certainly don't want to add to your satisfaction.:)
 
As I have mentioned before, I used to race cars for a living. Most of my friends would not ride with me on open road. They also thought I would be the same in an airplane. The very few that have been on a flight with me found out otherwise.

I never got a ticket for racing on public roads, but most my friends did.

I ride with the cruise mostly now, but every now and then someone thinks they are the road king, and I have to prove otherwise.....
 
Whenever someone passes me, then immediately cuts me off in order to turn, I always presume they just had a bout of explosive diarrhea. Makes me feel better. Otherwise, who cares? People commit all sorts of criminal or questionable behaviors that I do not. Why should I let it bother me if it doesn't effect or affect my life?

Was? Man trial lawyers I know are still practicing. One I flew for still going at it in his 70s. He's good too.

Well the sad thing is that it does affect us. 100 people die on our highways every day. We as a society seem to view this as acceptable risk when it is so totally preventable. If people would focus on their driving and use a little more conservative decision making, we could eliminate most accidents. I'm certainly not opposed to driving fast if the traffic and conditions allow, but when adequate safety margins can't be maintained it's not cool. Germans have a far better safety record or their autoban with no speed limit than we do on our interstates. I think it is because they are better trained drivers (much harder to get a license) that focus on driving instead of cell phones, putting on makeup, and the other foolish things I've seen our US drivers do on the road.
 
Drive to be invisible. Nothing you do should make someone else change what they are doing. It mostly works.

1,300 people die per day that are directly linked to smoking. Nearly 70 people day per hour in the US from heart disease. Both could be changed dramatically, and yet no one really complains about someone at the grocery store buying candy and gedunk and soda, nor have I read a single thread about someone getting mad because a dude bought some cigarettes at the convenience store while they were gassing up... Sooo.... :)

I suppose the argument for that would be the fact that the person who buys a pack of smokes has no effect on me. A person who drives like a manic on the interstate does.

Not making excuses for nucklehead drivers, but folks driving too slow and not using the left lane just for passing is almost as bad, and according to some studies even worse.

Man, I totally agree with you. That was some of the sentiment of my first post, is that we give a drivers license to any knuckle head in this country. It is treated here as a God given right when it should be an earned privilege.
 
Living in Atlanta, we have a LOT of traffic. At least once a week, I see "that guy". The one who cuts through traffic at "flow of traffic + 20 mph", surfing from lane to lane to lane to lane with minimal clearance, no lane change indicators, and absolutely no concern on the impact his (typically) driving has on the folks around him with people having to tap their brakes or being forced into a situation where they don't have the appropriate safety space around their vehicle.

There is nothing more that I want to see than a cop pulling over "that guy". Hasn't happened yet, but I've got time.
 
Ryan, I think with all of the construction and road closures around here some people are starting to snap.
 
And I thought is was just me because I am getting old :).

Michigan State Policy did me the favor several times... :ihih: I usually drive at or slightly above the speed limit - I had my share of driving (legally) at high speeds. :biggrin:

Also much MUCH better maintained roads. If you put the roads from Oklahoma in Germany you'd kill half of Germany in the first month.

Same. I get a bigger thrill out of cornering fast than I do going 150+, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t. It’s always hicks in lifted trucks around here.
 
Letusseeherenow, there are four classes of drivers: morons, nutzos, regulars, and me. The overly aggressive drivers are in the nutzos category with others who have blatant disregard for safe driving. The morons include folks who make up their own rules and tend to operate vehicles in a lazy manner. Folks who drive a Prius or smart car and swing into the left lane before turning right are a prime example of a moron. The regular drivers are those of us doing our best to get from point a to point b in a safe and even defensive manner.

And then there is me. I've gone nutzo on the defensive and precise driving side of things. Center of the lane except when turning? Youbetcha. Stop three feet from the crosswalk? Youbetcha. Left turn using a constant radius without encroaching on another lane? Youbetcha. Making sure to keep extra distance from nutzos and morons? Youbetcha.

Lazy drivers do annoy me and they get no sympathy or help. With power steering there is no reason to cut a corner so every turn should be precise and accurate. Maybe there's a fifth category: the pure lazies.

Same here, it's about the cornering, especially on the motorcycle. Even on back roads I ride along the straights at a lazy 65 or so, but light it up in the corners. Any goober can go fast on a straight, takes no skill.
 
I was riding with a friend heading west out of Sacramento CA to San fran. Traffic was cruising around 90 mph. We were doing around 75 mph. I kept telling him to speed up but no he would not. He got pulled over for impeding traffic. The cop was p#ssed because he would not go with the flow of traffic. I kept telling him to speed up.

But what I like is talking to some of these people who drive faster then the flow or over the posted limit. Ask them if they ever brake the law. Everyone will say no. I then tell them the speed limit is a law, you pick and choose the laws you brake.
