68 years

December 7, 1941 changed my life... Brought my parents to Detroit to work in the war plants - dad became the factory rep for the Merlin engine on the P-51 - and I grew up where I would not have grown up if there was no war... I cannot tell you what my life would have been without the war, but I know what it became because of that war... Whether that is for the good or for less good, I cannot say... I'm not old enough to remember December Seventh but I clearly remember VJ Day, the local bar/restaurant was a mad house that night... Of course, within weeks my parents lost their jobs as the war factories shut down, and we moved North from Detroit to Caro, Michigan to become farmers... All these things directly as a result of December Seventh...

WWII changed the entire world, and every life now in it.

We would not be who we are, with out the history.

You are a product of your heritage, and your education.

WWII changed both sides of that equation.

As it happens. I'm re-reading the definitive work on the Pearl Harbor attack, "At Dawn We Slept".
http://www.longitudebooks.com/find/p/20597/mcms.html

It is an extremely well written historical account of the year leading up to the attack from both sides, the attack, and the inquisition after. The follow on book "Miracle at Midway", is equally good.
Both tough reads, but worth the time.

We only seem to learn our lessons after thousands have died.

What a shame.

My (middle) namesake died at Pearl Harbor.

For decades we thought he was a war hero. He was my dad's favorite uncle.

When my grandfather died, my mom went through his memoirs. Turns out my great uncle did die at Pearl Harbor.

He fell off the roof of a whorehouse running from the SPs.

So, there you go.
