The original "I don't know it all" of aviation.
I don't remember if this was covered in past discussions or not, so I'll ask again.

If the rules/law pass removing 3rd class medicals, can previously denied applicants go fly? Or do they remain denied?

Nobody knows what the proposal under review says but it's assumed by most that the denied=not eligible provisions of the current Sport Pilot rules will remain.

Same for anything Congress passes -- until it's passed by both houses and signed by the President, you can't be sure what it will say.

From what I'm hearing through the grapevine, you don't need to worry about the 3rd class medical going away any time soon. Congress seems to have had enough of liberty vis-a-vis the GA community.

Both GAPPA and PBOR2 as written do not include the prohibition, so if passed without changes, previously denied applicants could fly.

But the previous posters are correct, it may change or not pass. No one really knows.

Neither GAPPA or the PBOR2 really specifies how the change in the regulation will read exactly. One might well expect it to mimic the Sport Pilot rules.

Sometimes reading these "3rd class medical reform" posts reminds me of those that buy the Iraqi Dinar...... everyday its getting closer and closer, but never seems to happen.

Of course the Iraqi Dinar is indeed a scam. I really hope the law does change - but I gave up a long time ago crossing my fingers. I'll stay as healthy as I can and fly as long as I can....

nobody knows for sure. my AME told me that she believes that those who have been denied stay denied until and unless they can pass the med. one of the senior med specialists at AOPA echoed that.

So cheating and lying until the third class goes away is a reasonable strategy. I kid, I kid.:D
