Regarding a possible stall and spin a couple of posters have mentioned, I saw a news report where a witness said the aircraft struck a large tree and was flipped upside down before it hit. That would explain the damage to the plane.

I read that too, it also mentioned striking power lines with it too, which could explain the fire. The fire chief mentioned that it was a small fire that got out of hand.
