I doubt my new cylinders will be on by then. If the are, then this would be a good break in flight.

I will be rooting for your cylinder to be completed. You could always hop in a Cherokee 180 a friend of mine owns at your field. I think you may know him!!

Just sayin!!!!!

Tim, what's wrong with parking in the grass down by your hangar?

Theres quite a slope from my taxiway to the one in front of the blue hangar, and that grass is usually pretty long. Not sure how easy or hard it might be to get airplanes in and out of there

I meant this area.

Hmmm, I like the way you think Mr V. That might make for a good option.

I will investigate.

I can walk it next week, and report back on the condition, remember if you dont ask they cant say no!

Sent out a bunch of PM's to check on who plans to attend. Don't throw stuff at me if you already told me yes or know and I have asked again. I am only trying to get a tentative head count.

I am working on finding a closer place to park your aircraft. Two year ago we had everyone park up by the FBO and ferried people back and forth in my truck, or van. If I can secure the area across from my taxiway it will only be a short walk to my hangar. Just be aware that there are no tie downs there.

Once I start receiving replies to my PM's I will start listing those planning to attend.

Stay tunde to this thread for further information.

Tim -
Any recommendations for an FBO / fuel? It looks like most of the reviews on AirNav for Commander-Aero are positive.
I am trying to understand where your hanger is at. It does not look like a long walk from the ramp.
I will send you a PM with my contact info.

Thanks
Jim

Commander has less expensive fuel a d has do Ares chairs and tables in the past so they would be preffered over AS I. If you look at the satellite image Vandy posted I am the third hanger from the north. We have a green space between my hangar a d the blurbs gar to the north. I walked the green space kffand we should be able to park 7 or 8 aircraft there. It just depends on jowmuch rain we get this week and how dry it is.

OK that was messed up and what I usually get when typing on my phone.

We would tug people in and out if we use the grass to avoid prop strikes.

Any questions as all don't hesitate to contact me.

Just spent a few hours cleaning out the hangar, and checking out the grille to make sure it is working right. Seems the fly-in is a great excuse to go to the field and clean things out. I held it at a different airport last year and the annual cleanout didn't happen. It showed.

Anyway l need now it you!!!!!

Not yet. I've been hesitant because, with my "procedure" next Wed, I'd hate to harass him about coming and then not show up myself.

I'll try to call him tonight though and see what he's up to.

Wow, at this point I have 13 aircraft confirmed and 29 people

Sounds kinda like a party!

What time are you planning for Saturday? We wouldn't mind coming in, I think there is also a fly-in in Terre Haute the same day.

Yes I saw the post about Tarre Haute, we will eat around 1300 lcl. Some people will arrive by 11:30 12 and will hang around till 1500 or so.

You are more than welcome to come.

I just got off the phone with the Airport Manager. He has approved parking in front of my hangar row in the grass area. I can fit 7 or 8 aircraft there. The rest will have to park at the FBO. Some have commented that the distance of the walk doesn't look to be that far, however the Airport Manager has requested that no one walk down the taxiway to my hangar. He wants anyone parking at the FBO to exit the airport ramp area and walk down the parking lot to my hangar. That is a very long walk which is why I shuttled people back and forth two years ago.
I have included a satellite image for you to look at.

I will have some locals with vehicles that I may ask to help with shuttling people. It is amazing how many can show at the same time.

Anyway, hoping this isn't too much of a pain. This airport is just big enough to have lots of rules.

Oh by the way North is to the left.

Thanks Tim,
You mentioned you talked to the airport Manager. Is there any need for us to call Commander Aero to give them a heads up?

The long range forecast is looking good.
Fingers crossed.
I'm looking forward to meeting some of the POA members.

Jim

I have already let them know so they will be expecting arrivals. I will also be stopping by to get the tables and chairs in the morning and will remind them.

Surprised the airport isn't more behind you. You're bringing in lots of airplanes, probably more than they usually see on a Saturday in May.

Curious Tim...what's wrong with walking off the south edge of the ramp and through the grass to the hangars. That appears to all be non-movement area. Not flat?

Beats me. They have numerous flyins but all the activity is usually centered at Commanders big hangar which makes things much easier.

That had a Swift fkyin that took place over three days last year and probably had around 30 aircraft

The airport was not layout in some cases barely meets the minimum dimensions to meet FAA standards. For instance the minimum distance from center of taxiway to hangars is within a foot or two of what is required so walking along the hangars puts you in the danger zone so to speak. Two years ago a local attendee walked through one of the FBOs and down the taxiway to my hangar. One of the FBO employees came flying down the taxiway to my hangar to raise he'll with me and threat in to call the sheriff. It was an interesting exchange to say the least.

is this area in blue the grass your are referring to?

No. It it the space between the first two hangars at the top and the third hangar from the top.

When I open the pdf sent on my computer the annotations show up. Let me know if your not seeing that information.

Got it.

If your viewing this on an iPad save the PDFs to iBooks then the annotations show up. It doesn't show otherwise for some reason.

Curious...how do people get to the planes that are tied down east of the taxway across from ramp? Do they not let them drive their cars out there? Can they not walk out there? Must they be shuttled by the airport gestapo?

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems really silly to not allow pilots to walk down to your hangar. Over the top silly.

They can walk from their aircraft to the FBO and vice versa. I have seen some people drive their cars to the tie down area but they really frown on it, and I know of at least one person that was tossed from the airport for driving on the taxiways.

My! That just seems quite absurd.

Let's see...

They trust me, an unknown pilot, to land a plane on their runway.

They trust me to taxi my plane all over every square inch of pavement.

But they don't think I have enough common sense to walk down to the hangars without causing issues?

Same goes with the guy who drove his car on the taxiway. How was he being any more dangerous than when he taxied his airplane down the taxiway? Do they think he leaves his brain behind when he hops out of his plane?

I might have to take a little stroll on Saturday if I make it! :stirpot:

Let me guess. The airport manager isn't a pilot. :dunno:
