This plane used to be at Marble Hill (the town closest to where I live). A ratted out aerobat hangar queen that never moved. Low time at about 1500 hours but ratted out nonetheless. Someone bought it and completely restored it at KCGI. I've been watching the progress for about 18 months. About a year ago it was a nekkid stripped down fuselage with no wings or tailfeathers.

I asked the local A&P today..."about what did he spend?"

"you don't even want to know" was the response. Wonder if he'll be taking it to OSH...gotta be a contender...it's brand new...everything.

Wow, that's really nice. I like the paint job too--very tasteful and true to the era of the plane. I especially like the checkerboard on the wheel pants. All it needs is an Aspen PFD/MFD in there. ;)

I hope part of the pax briefing includes "Do NOT touch or come within six inches of this door jettison handle without my specific instructions."

I would ditch the tacky stick-on wiring tie blocks tho. Just drill a hole and rivet one on proper.
 
That's got about 10 times the radio equipment of the AOPA one.
 
Nice little plane. If someone was going to be an independent CFI, that would be a great plane.
 
OMG that's one tricked out little 150!! Gorgeous. He probably still has less in it than a Skycatcher and I'd take this any day over the newer (now deceased) sibling.
 
Stupid question, but do you guys think this came in for less than what AOPA wants for their 'new' 152s? Great looking plane, btw.

Such refurbishments are a great joy, regardless of their balance sheet status! Kudos to the mechanic/owner.

It depends what was done and what the purchase was. I would guess if there was no big structural repairs done, and he added the 430w, he's in it around $50-$60k.

I'd say you're 50% low...or lower.

I'd bet that $60k doesn't even cover the cost of parts, mat'l and supplies. Look closely, it's all new.

And aircraft parts ain't cheap these days.

Obviously a very nice looking Aerobat. I'd like the chance to fly a near new 150 again, when I took my initial training I was flying 1 year old 150's.

Hah, funny you put it that way, because when I was taking my initial training, I was flying 28 year old 152's. :D

I'm just guessing, but it sounds like it was disassembled for paint, glass, and interior. That's $25-$30k on a 150 if reasonably shopped, much less if you're turning wrenches, way less if you're stripping the paint, or at least acting as the contractor. Stripping paint pays minimum wage, not $60hr.

Could he have spent more? Sure, any airframe repairs, engine work, turn key convenience cost, he could have spent twice that.
 
All that dough, but it looks like he still has a standard landing light? Couldn't spring the $200 for an LED?

I would hope not, they lose their Aerobatic status. Although if you want a 150/150, the aerobat is the one to use because the beefier tail structure. I used to fly a 150/150 banner tow plane that was exactly that. Spins, Chandelles, and Lazy 8s were still authorized though.

I think you can put a Sparrowhawk 125hp O-235 on it though and maintain the Aerobat papers.
 
Something's fishy here. In the first set of pics, #1-3 the wing stripes are outboard of the struts, and in pic #4 they are inboard.

It depends if in a hangar or outside, and if you keep them waxed or not. 18 months on the inside, 8-10 years on the outside(time frame wise)
 
Got to get that kink out of the mic cord. Better still, buy a new one. Its the little stuff that drives me crazy! Nice refurb for sure. :yes:
