Hey guys,

I found a few missing screws on my wing inspection cover plates. I took a screw to the local hardware store, it appears to be a 8 x 1/2 stainless screw. Of course, both local hardware stores both don't have any short enough.

I looked at spruce, and it looks like this is what I need: C8X8

Is this the correct screw?

Where on the wing?
Are they truly countersunk?
I just looked at the parts catalog and it calls out a bunch of S1021Z8-8 and -6 which is surely an old number but seems to x-reference to a truss-head sheet metal screw.
Really need to know where on the wing you are. And a photo of the installed plate, and a close-up of one of the other screws.
The parts manual can be found online - maybe you won't need it for this issue but if you are going to be working on the airplane, it's a good resource.

Go get yourself a free account at https://support.cessna.com/custsupt/csupport/newlogin.jsp and get your free parts manual.
Most likely it’ll be a #8 truss head type B (non pointy) screw but depends on the Tinnerman nut it screws into. Hard to tell what size over the years as many folks put the wrong screws in and jack up the nuts. If a legacy 182 it probably came with size 8’s. The manual will tell you what it’s supposed to have.

Thanks guys

The two covers in question are by the flap and aileron.

I'd pluck one of those screws out and take it up to the local National Aviation Parts Association store and pick up a bag of them, and keep a few extras in the hangar.
