How big of a job is it to change out a oil sump pan on a 0300 Continental

Cost?

Yours leaking? There is a new spray welding technique that has been approved. Airworx had a third party repair mine with that method. They are made out of magnesium and normal welding often leads to more cracks.

A few years back I bought one for the heck of it. It looks like new. Now im leaking and it is the the sump. Just knocking around how big a job it is

A leaking sump, if the oil is coming right through it, is often due to corrosion from the inside. And corrosion from the inside is usually due to water in the sump. And water in the sump is normally caused by ground-running the engine without flying it and getting the oil temps way up to boil off the condensation formed in the crankcase by water vapor, a combustion byproduct, going past the large cold clearances between the pistons, rings and cylinder. Water, mixed with oil, catalyzed by metal in the engine, forms at least three nasty acids that eat that engine.

Don't ground-run that engine thinking you're doing it any good.

The O-300 has a drain plug in front of the carb that is often hidden by baffles and is often overlooked. Quite common to find water there.
You can see port in post #4.

I do. It is recessed and holds “nasty looking watery paste” which I prefer

to remove from engine.

On some trikes that forward drain will be at the lowest point, especially if the nose oleo isn't properly inflated.

I had a tiny leak, more like teardrops so I ignored it. Inspected often for any changes. I purchased a good used replacement with intension to have the approved coating applied

Okanagan Aero Engine in Kelowna, BC is the company that can epoxy coat the inside of your replacement sump. They can do some sump repairs (fixed a crack on a mounting hole for me), but won't fill a hole from corrosion. My sump looked great when I got it back from them.

Airworx LLC apparently can spray weld and fill holes from corrosion.
