Thanks for spreading the word. I'm always curious, what types of articles do you find most useful and turn to first?

Another Warrantless Aircraft Search ( Iowa)

AOPA questions CBP authority to search aircraft as questionable detentions continue. 14 questions posed by AOPA to CBP about their authority. Expected cursory response back, but this is far from over. http://ow.ly/lmhOM

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

Thanks, Nick. Interesting suggestion. Of course, our 2010 Sweeps was a Remos. Nice little LSA.

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

The original request was for some sort of validation from another publication. The Atlantic is that--and a well-respected one at that. And James Fallows is one of the most thought-provoking authors writing today. Whether The Atlantic is liberal or conservative does not de-validate his writing...

Another Warrantless Aircraft Search ( Iowa)

Nick, You might be interested in this story that posted in The Atlantic, which notes AOPA's role in the FOIA request by the pilot. http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/05/annals-of-the-security-state-gabriel-silverstein-division/276011/

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

If you're one who believes the NRA is effective, then you might find interesting the frequent mentions of AOPA being the "NRA of aviation", including this reference from a few months ago by James Fallows of The Atlantic...

Message conveyed. I've been waiting to respond until the head of our medical certification dept. was back in the office. While what you were told may be correct, I'd like him to hear you out. Please PM me so I can hook you up him directly. Thanks, --Tom

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

Nick, I've been lurking for months and seeing/hearing the concerns and providing feedback to others on the leadership team based on what is said here. I don't mean to come across as defensive. I'm just trying to bring some insider perspective and additional information forward that those here...

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

I get it that members aren't asking for more mailings. The Wine Club was an attempt at a new product. It was not well received. We heard that. Canceled it. Learned from it and moved on. Any organization that is willing to try new things is going to fail from time to time. New Coke, anyone?

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

Ben, Thanks for your efforts on behalf of the ASN volunteer program. You and the other 2,000 volunteers around the country are making a remarkable difference in how we advocate and protect airports. We could use another couple of thousand at other airports. Who's game? My disclosure: As of...

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

Jeff, Many organizations have successful wine clubs, including the NRA and no one seems to believe that as a result the NRA condones the mixing of shooting and alcohol. The New York Times makes millions form its wine club. The one briefly promoted by AOPA was created not by AOPA but by a...

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

I've given you lots of information in the links above. You let me know when you have evidence that we have incorrectly taken credit for any of it. I'll be happy to correct the record.

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

Thanks. While we do put a lot of information out through our media channels (and I'm not including PAC letters in that description), we haven't been as active in the forums as we should be. We'll strive to do better.

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

You really should read beyond the forums..... I guess you missed this story late last week where we were successful in getting legislation passed in Indiana that dramatically lowered taxes on aviation, saving a pilot of a light twin some $100 to $250 at every fill up, saving flight schools...

    EAA Going After AOPA's Market

Bruce, I find your post misleading. I'm not sure what source you are using, but it's wildly out of date. Pribyl, Mordoff, and Myers are all the same position from different eras, not three concurrent positions. Mordoff last worked for AOPA in 2003; Myers in 2008. Pribyl is the current VP...

Santa Monica City Council Raising Landing Fees 250% Tonight Tues. 4/30

Tony, since I'm on a campaign here, just a word about the "junk mail" (BTW, it pains me that you put the magazine in the same sentence!). Know that no AOPA dues money is spent on those marketing pieces promoting the various non-AOPA-owned products, such credit card, Christmas cards...

Santa Monica City Council Raising Landing Fees 250% Tonight Tues. 4/30

It would be more accurate to say most of the citizens don't oppose the airport. Here's a story we wrote about the survey AOPA conducted last year of SMO citizens: http://www.aopa.org/advocacy/articles/2012/120517santa-monica-airport-not-key-issue.html

Santa Monica City Council Raising Landing Fees 250% Tonight Tues. 4/30

Rejoin Tony. We need your support and then you'll get ALL the skinny. With that, maybe your perceptions will change--or at least you'll be able to rant with more authority. :wink2: Thanks for the welcome. Been lurking a while, but knowing how much effort we've put into SMO, couldn't stay out...
