    Bought a new gun

I don't wander in here too often. Just some food for thought (or gas on the fire). Terminal Ballistics as viewed in a Morgue.

    Back in the air!

$99 wet is a deal. Around here, with an instructor we're nearly $200/hr.

    landing flaps below 200 AGL?

I really don't like to change configurations, VMC or IMC. I setup for the conditions, including runway length & condition, flight conditions receive a higher priority, no sense crashing short of the runaway. Just my technique/style and $0.02 worth.

    Need a CFII around OLM

Just an idea, buy something nice for your wife before and after Ron gets your ticket wet.

+1 on keep posting. I'm an earth-bound misfit right now, so the reports are appreciated.

    Patsy Cline Current

Lance, I can appreciate your point of view. I always defined my personal minimums in the same units as the approaches, which included visibility and applied them to take-off, en-route, descent and approach phases. I like to compare my guidelines to how the AWOS reports were trending while...

    Patsy Cline Current

You can develop personal minimums that will allow some portion of your flights to be conducted in IFR and still be safe. Update these "rules" as your expertise and skill levels change.

    Blast from the past

Tom, Good luck on the SI. I hope it's processed soon. Be sure to chronicle your flight here.

    IFR Refresher magazine any good?

I liked IFR and IFR Refresher. The articles and the quizzes made me think, which is a good thing.

    re register

Isn't $5 registration fee every three years better than ala cart user fees ? I spend $5 just getting to the airport. I don't find the cost burdensome. Heck, I think it should yearly as a part of the annual service. Just boost the FAA income enough so they don't go the way of Canada & Europe.

    Kneeboard

My all time favorite kneeboard is from ZuluWorks. I have all three of the models, standard, deluxe and mini-Z. I always go back to the standard. I also use their 3-in-1 Zulu pads. I scribble over of the place, but it's nice to have a standard place to write clearences, freq changes & etc.

    5 Ts ?

I'll have to find Dogan's book, for now. The sticker was of my own making, just an inkjet printer and some tape.

    5 Ts ?

Yo Ron ! Could you elaborate on your "Six Configurations" ? I hope this doesn't hijack the thread. I had a portable "sticker" that had Turn-Time-Twist-Throttle-Talk on it. Even in the G1000 172s, it proved useful. After flying a retractable 172 for a while, I still do the GUMP check on fixed...

The best thing I got from my CFI/CFII

Too many to share, but one sticks out is to make use of all the tools in the plane. Unlike the pilotage snobs out there, my CFI-I wanted me to use all the equipment, after all it's paid for. So, I learned to tune the VORs to double check position, to use the glideslope and localizer even if we...

Any 208b grand caravan pilots out there

Troy, you're always the handy one with links. Thanks ! I'm a big fan of the C208B. Someday, I hope to pilot one. :-)

    Thanking tower controllers

+1 When I did fly, the gang in the Raleigh Tower/Approach had my deepest thanks and respect. Washington & Atlanta Center never steered me wrong. I'm not sure the VFR crowd can fully appreciate how much us those of us in IFR conditions appreciate not only the voice, but the professionalism of...

    Tips on landing flares

Ditto. Once I learned to keep looking *down* the runway my landings got much better. There's an sight picture that goes with it, but if I tried to describe it you would like Woodstock in Skip's post. Good one ! Also, rushing to get the aircraft on the ground if one encounter float will...
