Flying VFR in rain with 3000-6000 ceiling

So back to this thread... I forgot I didn't post a follow up... First, thanks for all the advice. Also to Scott especially, whom I've received his info many times on these boards - and after this thread and my weekend, I signed up for his axwxworkshops.com site and have been going thru a...

Flying VFR in rain with 3000-6000 ceiling

Yeah... light rain and light snow. It was summer and very bright sun coming thru, so I could see for miles still. Never really flown in a low pressure rain situation, though. Where its complete cloud cover. I guess its like driving thru rain - just reduces vis but if its light rain it isnt...

Flying VFR in rain with 3000-6000 ceiling

So to follow up on my flight following question..same trip for tmrw (I73-44C or JVL, depending on winds).. It looks like it could be raining, with 3000-6500' ceilings.... I'm assuming that if it isnt raining, it'll just be a little hazy but vis should be ok... if its raining - how much will...

Getting flight following - final destination or next waypoint?

I'm heading to the Beloit area from Dayton tomorrow, most likely I73-MIE-JOT-44C When I call up Dayton approach after departing I73, what is my destination? Do I say VFR to 44C, via MIE and JOT? Or just VFR to 44C? Up until now, I've always just gone direct via the GPS... but I need to get...

Takeoff with full fuel all the time?

So now that I've actually started flying with a purpose and somewhat of a time-frame... and spending 15 minutes filling up basically everytime I fly more than an hour... I am wondering how much fuel I should carry around? Examples: I73-PKB, it was about 1:10 in the air (good tailwind). The 172...

    Predicting ceilings on Thursday

Well, I'm in downtown Parkersburg now... I took off around 3:40 from Dayton, ran into some rain just south of some thunderstorms around Columbus, and landed at PKB around 4:45. Much nicer than the 3hr drive! I flew over a ton of construction (damn you, recovery act!) with stopped traffic...

    Predicting ceilings on Thursday

Whoa - thats cool. I'll have to dig deeper into what it does and how later.... I have to be there today... which isnt a problem looking out the window... the return is just coming home.. so if I need to delay until Friday morning I'm ok with that, too. I would prefer to fly to get some more...

    Predicting ceilings on Thursday

So I need to head to Parkersburg, WV for work... I was planning on driving, but I just drove from SW Wisconsin to Dayton last night.. and have no desire to spend anymore time in my car. VFR I73 (dayton) to PKB is the route... leaving this afternoon (good wx).. I am concerned about the return...

    KLOT Info?

Ok, so I made the trip I73-LOT... Grant - I didnt check the thread until now... I ended up getting a car service into Lombard.. oh well, thanks for the offer, though! KLOT was busy! At 8:30CT there were two or three bigger guys (twins, and a lear) going straight in on 02... and 2 172s in the...

    KLOT Info?

Grant, Yes, I think I read that you were out of 1C5 when I was researching that... I'm heading in around 8am tmrw.. so hopefully the university traffic will still be sleeping off hangovers. In flying in and out of Clow twice, I only saw/heard a single trainer at LOT... and that was the...

    KLOT Info?

Howdy folks, I've flown into 1C5 (Bollingbrook) twice in the recent past... While I like the airport, fuel is cheap, and its nearby my destination (Lombar); I'm a low timer that didn't appreciate the morning thermals from the surrounding suburbia and the direct crosswind (runway 18/36 only)...

Would you do this in a 172 (water)?

I often look up the planes I rent..I am renting 6349J tomorrow, and noticed this was the last flight for it. Ballsy in a single engine rental training plane? Look at the altitude and speed graph - were they doing stalls over the water? http://screencast.com/t/YzM5NGJiMjE Regards, Mike

Ever have regrets the next morning?

I find that HF is good for tools I rarely use and don't break with age... Like one speed drills for drilling thru 10" of concrete or such... But, I'd buy TWO of everything. They were $9.95.. and the Makita was $89. So I'd buy two orange-Chinese-specials, and when one broke on a sunday morning...

    New School Checkout

Checkout at MGY to rent their 172SPs was a little ground on the EFI vs carb engine differences, a discussion to show how much I knew about the 172.. and validation that I just did some 172RG work. The flight was .5. 3 To/L. If I hadnt just done some complex training (with another instructor...
