Triple 4, double charlie - does it annoy you?

Sometimes the short hand just rolls off the tongue easier even if it's the same number of syllables -- or more. I don't mind it and wouldn't try calling someone out over it. And the only verbal call signs I find annoying are the Canadian aircraft registration (and others comprised of all...

    I’m calling the peak

My macro views are almost in total lockstep with Hindsight's. We're in a precarious financial position and I think it's going to be plainly obvious when the inevitable post mortems are written after our next economic bust cycle. But for now the music is still playing, so keep partying...

Getting a way late start. Going to takeoff in a few. Should be there shortly after kaiser.

    I’m calling the peak

Decent uptick in the number of aircraft for sale (and even more just within the last week since I ran this). Maybe a seasonal artifact. The trend continues that things are taking a while to sell. Not much change in aggregate pricing Archer/Malibu pricing stats might be a little misleading...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

today in the WSJ... <-- link to article, might be paywalled but you can get around it if you google the article name. Of course this is the centerfold picture, and of course it'd be the Cessna 195 pilot capable of drinking so much beer.

    Teardrop Entry

In cases like this I'd probably just setup to do a straight in (and of course people will come out of the wood work to complain about that, too). But I see nothing wrong with what you did. And if I was in a 150 I would not want a Columbia 400 trailing me in the pattern (IIRC that's your bird?)...

    lahso student question

I trained at a towered field and only used "student pilot" in my radio calls on a few occasions. Namely the "student pilot, first solo" call out. I shamelessly used it again on two other occasions when they gave me complex instructions I could not digest. Maybe in the future if you hear...

    6Y9 2024 Fly in/camp out

Arrow is packed, fueled and ready to roll for tomorrow  Have a big oak being taken down in my yard tomorrow morning, so after that finishes I'll hit the skies. Expecting to arrive around 3-4pm ET. Realized I left my camping gear in Michigan (the mitten part of Michigan, not the UP), so I...

    Flight following

+1 vote for check your encoder. I had a leaky encoder for a little bit and it caused the exact same problem. Never exceeded 300', but 1-200' delta was normal for the short period it was broken. Replacing the broken encoder fixed everything.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Many years ago I had an English mastiff that was about 220lbs. ... I will never forget the neighbor kid and his mom knocking on the door and asking to ride our horse.

First plane? Archer, Arrow, etc. any recommendations

Yeah - Dakotas are nice. I think the tough part is finding one and fitting that in the OP's budget. Given the OP's $100k price point, finding a Dakota that isn't trashed seems like a difficult challenge. There's relatively few for sale, and pretty much no decent ones for less than $150k. I...

do you swipe to type? (NA numbnutz)

not a fan of swipe to type. Too slow, too many errors. Better off hitting each little key. Now that I think about it, I think the fastest and most accurate I was ever able to type on a phone was with my blackberry 15+ years ago.
