Unable to stay VFR, ATC refuse pop up IFR clearance.

I appreciated ATC giving me a pop up IFR clearance the other day so that I could fly into Venice FL and eat at Sharkeys. It was unusual to have fog later in the day, like 2 PM but that was the situation.

    What type aircraft is this?

I used to know the difference between the twin engine Convair and the similar Martin.

VFR to Orlando in late April?

I wouldn't expect the thunderstorm season to start in April. Maybe May. Definitely June. But like all have said you might have some fog issues, or possibly some sort of weather so if you have to get there you might consider flying commercial. If I don't fly with full fuel or take...

Silly question: opening the door prior to emergency landing.

I remember the story of a Pan Am wreck in Pago Pago in 1973 where bodies piled up at the door exits. The 6 or so that got out did it through one or more wing emergency exits. The door exits got jammed if I recall correctly. And the fire started quickly as the plane had lots of fuel on...

    Caribbean Boat Charter

You certainly can say anything you want to on this forum so feel free to be skeptical but one of my adventures was going over from Miami to Bimini on an 18 foot Thunderbird boat with a 20 foot buddy boat. This was in the summer and you can get some calm weather in that part of the world in the...

    Caribbean Boat Charter

That is the way I feel. Probably not a way to "make money."

    Caribbean Boat Charter

I hope that he does well. I suspect that is tough to turn much of a profit in that sort of business but I am just guessing. It would be interesting to look at his profit and loss statement.

    Make my own checklists?

I had to make my own checklist to get through the instrument rating training because I needed some things that weren't on the stock checklist. Like others have said I Googled some Warrior checklists and got some help that way and edited those to suit my needs.

How old were you when you got you PP license

17 years old back in 1970 with that wonderful 42 cents a gallon avgas. I could get a job for 1.50 an hour so I got almost 4 gallons of avgas for an hour of work for a high schooler! How things have changed!

    Lets hear some aviation quotes

I like the cockpit voice recording of a commercial jet where they are about to crash on one of the large Canadian Islands: "You were right, Captain."

Looking for old / expired sectional (Jacksonville, or Papua New Guinea)

I have a Jacksonville expired 12 Feb 2009. It has a 3 or so inch cut in it. I also save them to wrap but if you would like it let me know.

Looking for Ft. Myers options 3/16-21

Speaking of "fun" just for fun I checked availability of the Dolphin Inn for the dates listed in this post and found what I have been finding on the beach, only one of those nights is available for 4 adults.

Looking for Ft. Myers options 3/16-21

I have enjoyed my stay at the Best Western on the River near Page Field. I have also enjoyed staying in the two Hampton Inns on I 75 near RSW. I stay in the cheaper one when looking up the available rooms. The beach motels seem to be pretty popular the week you want to come. Last time...

    IE 10 / 11 Problems

My IE stopped working a month or so ago so thankfully I am able to do what I need with Chrome and Firefox. It would be nice to have Explorer also so when and if I feel like it I may try some of those things. I have used Explorer for a long time so it is wierd that Microsoft is having problems...

NTSB Releases Sinking of Tall Ship Bounty Incident Report

That was a fascinating story. One of the King videos talks about the unforgiveness of the sea and aviation, and I certainly agree. Thankfully I have managed to survive sea and air adventures.

why so many piper aircraft for sale?

I have noticed that too, the difference in price between Cessna and Pipers. I trained in the 172 but because I got a better deal with a Piper Warrior II I now am part owner of a Piper. It is tough when I take a friend in his 80s up with me, he has a very difficult time getting out of the...

What do you look for in a FBO?

Good luck on that one. Some people are "takers." Two takers don't make for a great marriage. In life we tend to get back what we give. I appreciate your being a "giver" with your desire to help your customers with their needs.

Eastern Airlines coming back (kind of)

Or Pan Am. If I recall correctly Pan Am has tried twice to come back from the dead. I googled the name and ran into an "all flights cancelled" notice. I read somewhere years ago that someone bought "the valuable Pan Am name." I am a Pan Am fan but it seems like other names are finding...
