No, in the South, the additional negatives simply reinforce the original one. Like a verbal way of using italic, bold and bold italic fonts. One negative may not get the point across, so we use two. In extreme cases, we can go three or four, just to make sure you get the point. :D

    Happy Holiday

My wife says she sleeps with an engineer all the time . . . . . She's one lucky girl!

Review: Light speed Zulu 3 vs Quiet Technologies Halo

I've been wearing my Halos for over 8 years, including occasional mowing and runway work with them plugged into my handheld that was in my cargo pocket. The only problem I've had is some white paint on the black cord . . . They are light, but are certainly NOT fragile! Then again, I've never...

    Manifold pressure questions

Full power at sea level without turbocharging is ambient pressure minus whatever pressure losses exist in the intake system of your engine (figure an inch or so is about average). No idea about minimum MP, because at some point below about 12", my constant speed prop operates like a fixed...

Tell us your best courtesy car story!

Somewhere else in southern Illinois, on our outbound leg, our intrepid group was worried by a spreading undercast and ducked underneath for an early lunch and weather check. Final approach was over walmart, with a steady crowd going in and out of the Chinese restaurant. The field had two...

Tell us your best courtesy car story!

Four of us in two planes made a weather stop somewhere in southern Illinois, because the sky was black over Springfield and the field was reporting IFR conditions. Found a nearby field to stop and see when the weather was supposed to clear up. Only one pilot was IFR rated, and it wasn't me. The...

    Prop/Spinner Cover Assistance

No idea on how to fabricate a prop / spinner cover. But my winter gloves are 40g Thinsulate . . .

Resisting the Call of the Warrior

Vintage Mooneys are very affordable to own and operate, if you start with one in good condition. Insurance on any retract will cost more the first year if you have little retract and make / model time. Get 100 hours your first year, it'll come down; pick up IR in it, it'll come down more. Even...

    Approach mnemonics

I agree, Mark. Far too often I remember the mnemonic but not what it means. Like TOMATO FLAMES--it's quite a memorable phrase, but my Owners Manual has a nice list of required instruments for Day, Night and IFR. But I don't use one for approaches, just the briefing strip across the top, the...

tough landing for this Piper Malibu ...

For a foreign-registered plane landing at a foreign airport, this is the part that is important:

There's always Sport Pilot and Light Sport Planes. No medical needed . . . .

    couch to 5k

I've gone from the couch to 10K in about an hour, including the drive to the airport, preflight, departure and climb. But more often I level off between 7500 -- 9500 when traveling . . . . .

    Crunchy or Smooth?

Boiled peanuts are best purchased hot from the large iron cauldron steaming on every hilltop in N. GA & N. AL every fall. Looks like this ==> :stirpot: but with rednecks instead of a smileyface.

spotting traffic using the 'lean' method

I have forgotten what "a freezing cold car in the middle of winter" is like. It only sometimes drops below freezing here, but was recently in the 20s when I went to work in the mornings. Hopefully that's all for the next couple of years . . . . The only time I recall turning down the radio...

    Crunchy or Smooth?

Nah, they're better eaten roasted, and cracking the shells with my bare hands. While waiting on a burger at 5 Guys or a table at Long Horn (better because the food to come is better, and they have cold beer . . . . ).

    Crunchy or Smooth?

Crunchier is better! I prefer Super Crunchy Peanut Butter.
