    ELT frequencies

243 is the military guard frequency. It's their version of 121.5. Modern 406 ELTs will still signal on 121.5 to assist with DF searching, say by CAP.

[N/A] What's your blood type and how is your relationship with Mosquitos?

A+ and mosquitoes don't like me. But I think it's more about diet than blood type, something like the smell of your skin. That's why alcohol makes them more likely to bite, as your body sweats out the alcohol, it changes how you smell.

VFR in the mountains - Part II

I can't think of anything else. With a hole in the clouds, that's the choice, or go over the ridge between the cloud and ground. Not legal, but emergency. With a vfr gps (no VOR?), you're using foreflight for the approach plate? Or you don't have one? No way I would voluntarily try to...

Yes, all three drugs work the same way. Mounjaro/Zepbound is a considered a little more effective.

    Pilot not qualified?

Well, call me stubborn. Or maybe just too dumb to quit Reading carefully, I saw this: The Special PIC Qualification Airports List can be accessed in DRS: • Click on “Flight Standards Administrative Information,” • Click on “Operations Safety System Documents (OPSS),” and • Select the...

    Pilot not qualified?

It looks like the update list gets cancelled after a year and reissued. Current updates at https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/orders_notices/index.cfm/go/document.information/documentID/1041942 The list is maintained by AFS-200 and is a series 8900 notice. Here's the URL that eventually...

You might also ask about Zepbound if your intention is weight loss. Zepbound is the same as Mounjaro (Eli Lilly’s drug in the same class), but it is specifically for weight loss without diabetes. It may avoid future questions about why you got a drug for diabetes, say on a future life insurance...

VFR in the mountains - a cautionary tale, especially for us flatlanders

My take away was a reminder that the ground isn’t flat and mountains definitely are not. Secondarily, when flying toward a location with rising terrain your ground clearance will get smaller. Don't judge clearance by where you took off. Good reminder, thanks to Salty for posting.

Why does POA call it a PPL, when it is a Certificate?

Too late. You're on their radar now.

    ER visit for chest pain

That would be up to your doctor. Mine said if it was 400 he would be sending me to the hospital. It wasn't. Eat well, stay active.

South Carolina Breakfast Club 8/18 @ Triple Tree SC00 NO excuses attendance mandatory if you live in the United States not just for Southeast peeps

You could do an approach at KLUX to get under the ceiling, but the ceiling was varying between 1100-1300 and field elevation is 680. At times there wasn’t 500’ of ground clearance. Not my idea of fun. I saw nobody fly an approach.

Low IFR over SC00. I’m close but there’s no legal way to get in, so going somewhere east where’s there is some clear weather.

Voepass Flight 2283, a large passenger plane, crashes in Vinhedo, Brazil

Were they on autopilot? The speed changes with the constant altitude is scary looking, but the altitude is constant. In icing?

    Childhood ADHD

Ditto, but without the laugh. There is zero tolerance for lying in aviation. It sounds like you're well within the ability to fly sport at least. Recommend you go that route for now, learn you way around and get a consult with an AME on your history before you submit an application. You...

    Shocked and speechless

I’m in Italy right now, somehwere south of Verona. Out of morbid curiosity I did step on the pedal and open the lid. The left bin was empty.

Good to hear. If I recall, we were in primary training around the same time, it looks like you were able to dive in a lot deeper than I did. I could complain about work but then I'd have to complain about not being able to fly. Congratulations on the success..
