I got the "small airplanes are so dangerous talk today"...

Bob, calm down. I'm all for defensive driving. I do it myself. I do it while riding my bicycle. I do it while riding my Vespa. Does it help, sure. Will it save your life if someone blows a stop sign at 45mph, no. To think that you can avoid all mishaps and crashes while driving is just plain...

I got the "small airplanes are so dangerous talk today"...

Driving defensively is a myth based upon ego, because you think you're smarter and safer than the other drivers. Yeah, it might have "saved" you from that accident one time but on the whole, most horrific and deadly car accidents happen so fast that there is nothing that can be done. If someone...

I got the "small airplanes are so dangerous talk today"...

I also do PI work and I've seen some horrific accident scene photos. I've used a variation of your line by saying every time you get in a car, you put your life in the hands of someone else.

I got the "small airplanes are so dangerous talk today"...

I agree with what everyone here has said. However, I don't remember the last time I read an article about a family of four dying in a PIper Lance because a 16 year old boy blew a stop light and T-boned them. The overwhelming majority of GA plane crashes are due to pilot error due to weather...

I got the "small airplanes are so dangerous talk today"...

I commute by bicycle during the week, and even ride my bicycle to the hangar to fly. Statistically, I should be dead.

I got the "small airplanes are so dangerous talk today"...

We've all been there, someone hears you're a pilot, asks you what kind of plane you fly, and then begins to "tell" you how dangerous it is to fly such small planes because they see crashes on the news where everyone dies. Unfortunately, I was ready (partly because of my job) to rebut this...

Someone Just Had a Very Bad Day in D.C.

Someone Just Had a Very Bad Day in D.C.

I've said this for years. If someone is willing to die for what they believe in, there ain't no stopping them. They will find a way to accomplish whatever f'ed up message or statement they are trying to make.

    Transponder whine?

Turned on my transponder today with engine off and it was making an audible whine when turned on. Not sure if I’ve turned it on without the engine running. Thoughts on the cause?

    Desperately seeking DPE

I was waiting for almost two months when I decided to start calling DPE's from the neighboring state. Found one on the first call. Scheduled for following weekend. I own my plane so I was able to travel with a cross-country sign off by my CFI.

    Another T-38 down... :(

Horrible news and hits close to home. I fly through the Vance AFB MOA on the regular. A few weeks ago I scooted through the Vance MOA and there were four T-38's playing around near me.

    Marvel carburetor gaskets available?

Currently in process of an owner assisted annual on my Cherokee 180 and my mechanic and I noticed that my Marvel carburetor is seeping fuel, not leaking, at what we think is the gasket which joins to the halves of the carburetor body. We degreased, cleaned, and ran the motor but we can't...

What do you know now that you didn't know when you got your ticket?

-The weather is approaching faster than you think -The weather is worse than you think -Demonstrated crosswind maximum means something different when your family is in the plane -short runways are shorter than they seem -your engine will make new noises when someone new is on board (don't...

    uAvonix has Acquired AeroVonics

BK recently bought Trutrak. uAvionix recently bought Aerovonics. There's a pattern of big avionics companies buying the smaller ones and then jacking up the price of newly acquired equipment.

Would you VFR night fly with these simple instruments?

Would I fly that 140 at night? Local city flight to see the sights, sure. Night VFR cross-country with the possibility for clouds, no city lights, and possible unfamiliar area, no way.

    Which aircraft to upgrade to?

At your $150k budget you could get a low time really nice equipped Lance with air conditioning that would have a useful load of 1300-1400. The Saratogas have less useful load than a Lance.
